Default Second gen to first gen front end conversion

Hello all, i am new to the forum and somewhat new to subaru's in general. I basically have myself a zombie wrx/sti. Its a 2003 wrx bugeye with a 2006 sti 2.5L engine and a 2004 sti 6 speed. I am looking into switching the front end because lately ive gotten tired of the bugeye look. The main reason i got one was for the fog lights. Anyways i know most of the second gen subarus are all interchangeable. But my question is has anyone been able to successfully convert a first gen (gc8) style front end onto their second gen sti? Looking to see if its possible because they look like they MIGHT use the same platform. If this wasnt possible i have a buddy who might want to switch me a hawkeye front for my bugeye. Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks,
-Trevor

Just search Bugeye to Hawkeye. Quite a few threads on it if I'm understanding what you want correctly. Also, I'd be interested in getting your parts =p You'll probably be doing this too soon for us to swap, but I'm going to take my Hawkeye to Bugeye, so I'd love your lights, fenders, etc.

Well to be honest my original question was could my bugeye be converted to a first gen gc8 style front. And IF there was nothing about the first gen gc8 style swap i was considering a hawkeye. I know all the second gen subarus (bugeye, blobeye, hawkeye) are all interchangeable but i have no clue about the first gen ones

I'm not sure anyone has actually done this, but there is a first time for everything. I would guess that it would at least be as complicated as switching between the GD chassis (from bugeye to blobeye, etc.). You will need fenders, hood, front bumper, and radiator core support. The core supports are welded into place, so you will need some skills. My biggest concern would be whether or not the fenders from the earlier model will be long enough. Secondly, they will probably not bolt directly to your inner fender, so you may need to drill, tap, and otherwise modify the body underneath.

I'm not sure if you are serious about doing this, but if you are, please post pictures.

No it can not be done.

The GDA^ is a totall different frame in terms of body panel mounting compared to the GC. I would say if it was to be done it have to be a full front clip swap from fire wall forward. next issue is the doors being totall different heights, so that means the door to fender line will be way off, like by inches probably. Basically all the GC body bits are smaller in height compaired to the GDA^. This is not a project worth thinking about anymore interms of swapping things for astetic looks.

and GDA platform swaps Bug to blob or hawkeye are far from a bolt-up "interchangeable" there is quit a bit to do. welding the core support and lot of parts.

Dimensionally the GC from the doors to the center-line of the front suspension they are different. Also the door contours at the front edge-to-fender are totally different. It "could be" done, but its going to require cutting, sectioning, stretching etc.

Are you still looking to trade? The guy backed out that was going to trade his hawkeye for my bugeye.
