Default GD Koyo Hyper-V Core Review on '02 WRX

Like most people who upgrade their radiators, the plastic end tank finally split at about 110k miles.

After some research I decided to go with the Koyo Hyper-V Core radiator. This is supposed to have a slightly thinner core (Vs. the Koyo R-Core radiator) and an updated core design. Initial impressions out of the box were positive, the welds look good and all the bosses appear to be welded square to the end tanks.

I had read previous reviews and comments that mentioned that you needed to source replacement hardware because the OEM screws that mount the radiator fans would not work with the fine threads cut into the Koyo bosses. I was happily surprised to find that new, plated hardware was included with the radiator.

For those who are wondering, the drain plug has a 14 mm head.

I wanted a stealthy installation, so I masked the core and painted the end tanks satin black with high temperature radiator paint.

Call me crazy, but I went so far as to replace the warning sticker that was on the factory radiator for that extra bit of camouflage. The STI 1.3 bar radiator cap was added to the radiator and a Moose Racing 1.6 bar cap was added to the expansion tank.

All in all the Koyo Hyper-V radiator is a very high quality part at a decent price point. I haven't had any trouble with it in the past few thousand miles and I expect it to outlast the factory part. The factory intake snorkel even covers up the Koyo logo on the upper tank for the ultimate stealth installation.

Edit: While reading a MotoIQ.com article about their experience with the Koyo Hyper-V Core radiator, they mentioned that a Koyo-branded radiator cap was included. My radiator did NOT come with a replacement cap.
