Its all opinions- my opinion is the interior on the Audi looks way better, and the nappa leather sport seats are better. The digital instrument cluster on the R also looks to be lower resolution. The interior on the Prestige is the same as the premium- the big difference is you can only get the stop and go auto cruise control on the Prestige # but I think the nappa laether/s sport seats still have to be optioned but i could be wrong.

They produced a ton of MK7.5 before their holidays and the launch of the MK8. Last hurrah if you will. Our R is different than the rest because US execs have to annually thumbs up or down production of it and it's only produced with the body of the base e-golf. Which is why it doesn't get the pano roof option. Yes, a bastard child.

I mean it's damn boring looking but the sound isn't too bad. I have grown to hate un muffled EJ Subaru exhaust so I celebrate different. Even if it's dog**** coming out through a dog's nose.

Yeah there's tons of them setting on the lots. I wonder when they'll start discounting them?

The Golf R might not be exciting in the styling department (never really has been) and might not be the best sounding exhaust but it does make for one hell of a fun and comfortable daily driver. I think it’s pretty hard to find a car in the same price that equals the same fun + comfort.

The Golf R is the best overall package of sportiness and practicality available today. There's nothing else really close.

^Agree with both of you. I'm not a VW fan, but I admit that it's an impressive package.

With the DSG and a few bolt-ons it can be a quick 1/4 mile car. Stage 2 Golf R's are capable of mid 11s.. while still being relatively affordable, comfortable and a practical daily driver with its AWD, 5 door hatchback and respectable fuel economy.

Sure, it's a VW and may have its issues, but no car is perfect. You'll often see ringland failures, spun rod bearings, connecting rod failures, and carbon build-up mentioned on Subaru forums..

If you want something more comfortable and practical than the STI then it's a good alternative offering a completely different driving experience. It's all personal preference.

I wanted to test drive one before purchasing my STI just to see if I was missing out on anything, but there weren't any available in my area at the time. I also knew that I wouldn't be able to get as good of a deal on the Golf R since I was getting the STI below invoice. And to top it off.. I really would have wanted the Golf R with the DSG, but I'm not ready to switch to the dark-side and give up on the manual transmission yet.

Supra gets on the gas 1/2 second earlier than the Golf R... "got 'em on the launch"...

Last month I had to drive 6 hours to get one in blue, and no one I talked to in Seattle or Portland was coming off MSRP more than a few hundred.

So far the thing is pissing me off tho. It's so sluggish from a start. My Ascent beats it off the line.

There are some VAGCOM/Obdeleven settings that should help out with that.

MT I assume? i find the same thing generally. Occasionally I get off the line quickly, but it's not a very repeatable event. From everything I've read, tunes seem to fix this issue. Could be something in the stock tune to protect the garbage clutch that they used.

The only thing that was there was the starting vibration reduction, but that adaptation has been removed from the settings for the later 2018's and 2019's. I was able to turn it off on my car, but I felt it made more of a difference in a stall situation than it did trying to get off the line quicker. I still notice it's sluggish.

I have the DSG. I've tried the OBDEleven tweak to change the throttle from "incremental" to "direct", and that helps somewhat, but it's not enough.

I've got a pedalbox on order, which has very polarized opinions.

I'm reluctant to get a tune because I want to keep my factory warranty intact. I'm 2 hours away from a dealer, 5 hours away from a non-dealer tuner shop. So if I have problems down the road with a tune, it will be a nightmare. But if the pedalbox doesn't make me happy, I guess it's the only option left.

Damn Subaru for putting in me in this position. I would have bought a Levorg or WRX Hatch or Legacy GT wagon, but no no no. Argh.

the pedalbox makes a night and day difference. i went from a way over sensitive throttle on my 2016 wrx to a dead feeling one on my R. pedalbox even on a low setting totally fixes it.

APR DSG DQ381 tune. Warranty blah. The tune will prolly save the DSG from grenading at 72.1k miles. And yes, obligatory **** YOU SUBARU.

Surprised to hear someone say that the DSG felt sluggish off the line... Usually hear the exact opposite. Although I have heard more negative things about the new 7spd vs the older 6spd dsg.

Pedal box should help. Consider JB1/4. I'm thinking I might pull the trigger on one here soon. I feel like I want a little more oomph, particularly in 1 and 2 given the factory tuning that cuts the requested torque in 1st and 2nd gears.

Probably not anytime soon based on last month's sales.

I haven't shop for one in years but there are 38 listed within 25 miles of me (new models) and 116 within 75 miles. I have read about people getting around 2 to 3 grand off on the new ones here in the Northeast. They are discounting them for sure. Good time to buy if you are looking for one. People are also getting a base 2019 STI for 35-36K too. Not sure about the CTR but it looks like the hype is slowing dying.

There were very few Golf Rs for sale near me when I was shopping around back in March and dealers wouldn't budge on MSRP. There are < 10 listed within 50 miles of me in northern California. Glad to hear they're being discounted in some areas.

I purchased my '19 STI with the Recaro package for $37k back in March. Someone posted the other day that they were quoted $36k for the same package... Over $1k below invoice and ~$4.5k below MSRP.

Meanwhile dealers are still trying to sell CTRs for over MSRP so they're sitting on the lots longer.

Tons of them available here. Even dealer advertised discounts already.

https://www.lindsayvolkswagen.com/ne...=Golf+R&page=1

I also know someone that picked up a 2019 STI with Recaro and SPT exhaust for 36K.

They probably sold a lot cause they have tons on the lot and are discounting.

Another dealer here has 8 Golf Rs on the lot. The managers have to be looking at those and saying "damn, I'm paying for those every month to sit here."
