Default '13 WRX sedan exhaust and more

Anyone local to the Lawrence, MA/Salem, NH area with a '08+ SPT exhaust? I am considering getting this and would really love to hear one before I make the decision. Beers are on me!

Next Thursday Surbaru of Keene is doing a new owners appreciation night and I have a few items on my shopping list, they are telling me 15% off parts for sure, some with free install...

Be weary of the SPT. The flange to the muffler on the 08-10 sedan rotted out prematurely on a good amount of them. I don't know if the 11+ sedan has the same issue but the setup is similar.

Too loud, I work at an office don't the whole building to know when I am coming and going. Not to mention I go to customer sites, etc.

I want something louder than stock, but not obnoxious. Which I hear the Q300 is real loud.

I have only heard my buddies 2011 wrx hatch Cobb catted turboback and it sounds just right. Nothing boasting a look at me sound, but has enough roar when you get on it. My Invidia q300 catted turboback is slightly louder and rumblier(not a word I know) than the Cobb. If I were to buy a gentlemans exhaust one that is subtle but sounds just right, I would go Cobb. My Q300 literally shakes my house during cold starts.

Haha this is exactly what I am talking about. The car is already real low, especially during cold starts. I don't think the good people of 21 Oak Ridge will appreciate that everyday before I go to work.

The Cobb catback is not even available right now for the '13 sedan, so that is out of the question for now. Leaves me with SPT, maybe Perrin but I think that will be similar to the Q300 and I hear good things about Borla, I love their exhausts on other cars, never heard one on a subie.

One of my favorite exhausts of all time was a Borla on a Corrado G60. Deep, smooth, no rasp.

Ohhh I assumed you had a hatch... prob the quietest would be spt I would think. Even the nameless with stock dp+ midpipe isn't to loud on the sedans.

I will eventually or in the near future be going to a DP so I am trying to look for a cat back right now. I think SPT with a DP and potential intake will have a nice sound too without alerting the neighborhood that me and my WRX are on the way to work...

Anyone local with a Perrin or Borla?

Opinions on loudness...

SPT, Cobb (which is not available), Borla, Perrin, Invidia. Ranked quiet to loud?

Think that is true?

Just remember the SPT will only be a 2.5 so when you start mating up parts it can be tough. I loved the sound of it because it was near stock, but LOVED my Invidia set up. If I were ever to do it again and want it quieter I'd go Perrin. I would never touch Borla, I'm just not a fan. Remember it's all personal preference for the most part. My suggestion after owning 2 STi's is to go 3in no matter what you get.

I have an SPT (Borla) exhaust on my '11 STi. The exhaust is loud, even at idle, and while driving, it is loud enough to set off car alarms when driving down a side street or in a parking garage. I would prefer if it were quieter, but I like the rumble. The down pipe is the stock 2.5 inch catted pipe, and the cat-back is 3 inches, but replacing the downpipe with a three inch pipe would only add a couple of WHP. If I wanted to be even more obnoxious (I have four Hellas up front), I would have installed an external waste gate.

I have an Invidia N1 on my '02 bugeye. The N1 is quieter at idle but gets loud in the power-band under throttle. Different motor, but the N1 has a much different sound; more whine, less rumble.

I am in Watertown.

(Trust Max on the rust issue. My '11 has been fine, but he sees a lot of Subarus every day.)

So you have the SPT or the Borla? Guess by your description it must be the Borla?

The Borla is a 3" single, into 2.5" dual, into 2" quad, their tips are 4.5", that is pretty huge. I want to try and find the same specs for the other exhausts. I do believe the SPT is 2.5" all the way, so the single is 2.5" versus the 3" on the Borla. Invidia just says they are 3", so I guess the pipe is 3" all the way through.

Anyone know the specs on the Perrin? Edit - Just checked, they are 3" straight through to 3.5" tips. Tiny compaired to the Borla

MaSTi - Why would you not touch Borla? Does the brand have a problem? ie rust or something?

I have the single Perrin exhaust (from 08-10) on my 2011 and it's absolutely perfect. Even with a downpipe it's quieter than my friend's SPT. I'm not sure if the newer quad tip is as quiet, but it's something to consider. I prefer the way the single outlet looks.

Just got off with Kinetic, those guys are really helpful.

Condensed list:

CBE and DP: Either Invidia Q300 or Perrin (DP will be the same manufactorer as the CBE)
*Anyone local with either of those setups?

Short Shift: Kart Boy or SPT (leaning towards Kart Boy) this will include the front and rear bushings by Cobb

Transmission Mount: Either Group N or Super Pro, this will be done the same time as the short shift.

Still maybe considering the STI engine mounts and pitch stop, unsure on these though. I believe they will greatly increase the engine and transmission noise, but might be worth it for the feel.

Also maybe considering the SPT lower chassis brace and the SPT strut tower bar, these would be more for looks as on the street probably won't notice much of a difference, may wait until I get into the AutoX and then make a call on those.

I have rulled out the SPT exhuast, I am sold on a 3" through design. Anything else I might consider will just be dress up and can be addressed at any time.

Must be.
Sedan: magnaflow is louder than Q300
Hatch: Q300 is louder than Magnaflow.

Personally, the sound comparison between both brands is super obvious. Imo Invidia is superior in both quality sound, construction, and looks.

Something like Greddy or Cobb is also going to be top notch quality and sound. I feel like brands like Invidia, Cobb, and Greddy really shine when it comes to sound quality and depth. Because who buys a Subaru and wants a raspy hollow sound? Not this guy...

If your going to AutoX pick your class then decide on mods. Modding before you do that is wasteful.
