Default Neutral to 1st gear problem

Hey guys. Today at a red light I attempted to put car from neutral to first and had to go back and forth 3 times and push the clutch in and out before it went into gear.

Can someone inform me if this is something to be worried about or is a normal occurrence. Keep in mind it has happened a couple times before.

If it is a problem what would that problem originate from (synchros, tyranny etc)

The car is 2020 wrx with almost 6k miles. Stage 2.

It has a perrin shifter bushing and shift stop.

Thanks!

Question

If it was an older car, I'd suspect that the clutch hydraulics needed to be bled... but with only 6000 miles, I dunno.

When you're experiencing the issue (and you're not in traffic), turn the engine off and see if it'll go into 1st gear easily. If it does, then it sounds like the clutch isn't disengaging enough (and bleeding may be required). If it still doesn't want to go into gear, then I'd suspect the shifter needs adjustment.

My guess is that your shifter stop is too tight. I initially set mine up with almost zero play in the 1-2 gate, but it was too hard to get into 1st sometimes so I had to adjust it.

Agree with the others... check your shift stop. Also, I've found that if you can't get into first, you can throw the gear into second and then into first. That seems to help line things up and is more reliable than trying to go back and forth between first and neutral.

This happened to me with just the perrin shifter bushing and factory STI SSK. The biggest thing that helped me out was after fully depressing the clutch slowly shift over and then up into first rather than trying to slam it into 1st quickly. Id get locked out once or twice too at a stop or red light but this solved most of it
