Default Is it possible to remove ECUTEK?

I have an ECUTEK flash done to my 05 STi ECU, but I want to go open source.

Is there a way to remove ECUTEK from my ECU?

EcuTeK licenses cannot be transfered to other ECU's. you would have to sell your ECU.

if you don't care about losing the license just flash over it.

I don't care about losing it, I just want to have full access to my ECU again...

ECUTEK is hardcoded, right? So is it really possible to just "Flash it away" ?

hmmm, actually, some of the newer EcuTeK flashes lock you out of your ECU, are you locked out of your ECU?

If it's an older EcuTeK flash, you will be able to work on the ECU without a problem.

Try reading the ROM first. If you can't, then you need to contact an EcuTeK dealer to revert your ECU back to the stock ROM. A Cobb dealer might be able to help as well, since (IIRC) EcuTeK and Cobb collaborate on their lockout methods.

Yes. They've been doing it ever since they saw that EcuTeK was doing it.

A "locked" EcuTeK ECU was sent to Cobb for recovery, and ever since then, they lock things out in the same/similar way.

The full story is buried in this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1027462

My ECU wouldn't accept the v2 AP, it couldn't upload the map for some reason. ECUTek on the other hand was no problem...

I got tuned in February, so I'm pretty sure I am locked out...

So is a benchflash the only option, or can someone with protuner also unlock it through the OBD2?

I hate monopolies

so send it back to tuner, tell them to revert back to the OEM map, then you can do as you wish

send it back to tuner = no driving of the car for a few days...

Ideally i would like to hook up my laptop and say "erase all" and be done

Since you have an AP, call Cobb for assistance.

I doubt there's much demand for a used 2005 STI ECU with some unknown EcuTeK tune locking out other tools and the buyer would have to take it to a Subaru dealership in order to register all of the ignition keys in it.

And the dealers I have called sofar didn't want to do do it, unless I bought a brand new ECU from them (~$650)

Can Utec work over top of ecutek flashed ECU? I think so. Just an option. Im having the same problem with a friends car i installed my old setup on (18g and supporting mods). Terrible ecutek tune and the tuner is not available. What to do. Some folks say Cobb has maps that can flash over ecutek flash's. Dont know how thats possible or if they are refering to cobb unlocking it first.
