Thanks Clark. Your tune was great. It's been below zero to twenty degrees the past month in Chicago, so I'm not sure it's worth it to tune at the moment. I don't want to datalog in this weather. Although I suppose I could always just use a COBB LWG Map until it warms up in spring. At this point I'm not super worried about my warranty, because it's probably gone. I can't imagine getting anymore warranty work done given my engine blew at 5.7k miles on a brand new car. If anything else engine related goes I'm certain an SOA engineer will be brought in to scrutinize my ECU. I'd say "I should have bought an EVO" but I do not want an EVO! I test drove both and prefer the Subaru. And even then I'd just be swapping engine weaknesses for transmission weaknesses. |

Take some logs and send them to your tuner. He will obviously know more than we will and can probably make some adjustments to the tune. |

A datalog won't directly indicate if something is failing on the engine but it will give some good insight as to what is going on, especially to your tuner. Send the logs to your tuner and see what he says.
How much knock are you seeing? Is it at a consistent RPM every time? If you are really that concerned with it, go get a compression/leak down test. That's the only way you will know with certainty that your motor is healthy or on its way out. But I think this would be jumping the gun. Talk to your tuner. |

Emailing him right now..seeing what he wants me to do. Im just preparing for the worst..I had plans to do an internal build with a 20g turbo just not under thses circumstances. I was gona take it to Subaru but i know there gona tell to F*** off cause the car is moded and pro tuned. Lets see what Clark Turner says.

Clark will say the same thing as above. The Internet can only tell you so much. As above, email and work with your tuner, a log can only tell you so much. The only way to know what is mechanically wrong with an engine is a physical test. Compression and leak down will give you first hand knowledge where your engine is at.
Anything you are asking here is pure speculation. Best thing you can do is save up for the worst case scenario. |

Yeah... If its making noise, I would not drive it. Really, I would need to hear what noise it is before I could give any solid advice, Could be a noisy cam bucket, Or a failed tensioner. Its also possible its a rod bearing. Lots of 2013's failed with rod bearing issues. Most of which I believe are the result of a E-tuner. Light load knock will trash your bearings quick and that tuners map had 10 full degrees added over a stock timing map so the car is over advanced as you just drive to work and cruise knocking the hell out of the bearings.
There are lots of causes guys but the main thing is that the pistons are weak and anything out of the norm can damage them. |

I have a 2012 WRX and I too just had my short block and all of its components replaced due to engine knock at 20,500 miles. Now I'm 100 miles into the "break-in period" any suggestions other than a tune? After having an XT blow and now my WRX I wouldn't even think about voiding my warranty.

Im tearing my car apart as we speak and doing a rebuild..its bona be a beast after its done. I think the older STIs are stronger..I don't think the 2008 STI + have the same quality.

I'd be curious to see if Cobb has run any of these stock tune AFR/Boost graphs on the newer (12,13 or 14) STI's. Didn't the factory send down a flash a couple times after the 11MY? |

I am back. Only to report how the car is going AFTER I sold it. The next owner is still getting terrible gas mileage and chewing up the tires. However he is beyond happy with it. Even though it gets the fuel economy of a dodge ram it is running perfectly. I am only following up to let anyone know how this went. I personally think most people on this forum are fantastic, wonderful even . But thanks to the complete jerk offs that just want to argue and start fights I haven't logged in in over a year. So for any of you that read this thread and actually contributed in a positive manner. Thank you. People may even learn form this. for all you others, kill yourself. No ONE joins an enthusiast forum to be called names and have some keyboard tough guy run their mouth. The STI is a overpriced disaster in stock form. SOA lost me forever ... I would rather buy a used Audi S4 . And I did . I bought a used 2010 S4 with 79,000 miles on the clock . I just hit 100,000 miles with ZERO tune issues. I have invested a pair of tires, $300 worth of bushings and $130.00 in gaskets and head cover bolts since I have owned it. I get 21-28 MPG .. and its beats the pants of a STI... in every category except steering feedback . In that department the STI is a complete dream. Have fun with your rattling panels, dog **** interior , pretend fender vents and your book shelf sized " wing " ..... oh an who could forget cylinder 3 ?

I think the problem cylendars are generally #'s 2 and 4. Enjoy the Audi, but Scotty's right... that thing is going to turn into a much bigger money pit than the STi. |
