most likely I'm an idiot, but I need some help...
I just purchased some PIAA H3's to replace my stock fog bulbs... easy enough, BUT, when I pulled my existing bulb it says "H3 55W 12V", so, I pull out the nice new PIAA and it says the exact same thing!!! Am I dumb or is this the same thing? I thought our stock fogs were a lower wattage... so, what's the point in even replacing the bulb if a higher wattage will burn the wires? I'm really lost here, I think the existing fogs pretty much suck, but I'm not quite prepared to dish out the cash on the PIAA ProXT80 kit($280.00)... to make a long story short: PLEASE HELP
Will

Hey, brucelee, thanks for the info...
Do you know if the Hella 500 fog lamps are brighter than the stock fogs? I believe that the Hellas are also 55W... Will [This message has been edited by RONIN (edited March 07, 2001).] |

Ronin - just get a heavy-duty wiring harness and run 85 watt bulbs until you can afford good lamps. You can get a generic harness at an auto parts store which is better than the half-assed stock wiring.

Or just use the "half-ass" stock wires like me. No melting. Maybe my lights aren't as bright as they could be, but they're a lot better than before. One of these days I might go and get a decent harness.
BTW I've got PIAA 80w=135w platinums in mine. |

The little nub center reflectors are a nice rainbow-gold color. I prefer to call it 'custom' rather than 'broken'

I just have a set of Xenon White 100W bulbs in there. They looked nice and clear compared to the stock headlights, but I threw a set of the same in the headlights, now those look blue-ish (really white, but I think there is a hint of blue).
No problems with melting wires or anything yet... Another guy on the board has been running them for a month without troubles too. |
