more utec stg2 knock..
oh yay, I think they need to do some major updating with the utec for the 04's..
i have knock even with the stg2new map, tweaked it a bit, still knocking, i dunno whats going on here, but im running suggest boost, and its not liking me much i guess I think the boost is reading off, my gauge says .12 mpa at most, but im gonna turn the boost back a little bit anyway Code:

My advice is to lower the boost, it peaked at over 18psi in that log! Does your regular boost gauge report the same thing?
Your map is pretty rich too, you probably have some tuning to do there IMO. |

its rich because it came that way, turned the boost down quite a bit, peaks at .115 in 4th now, still need to do more testing
i didnt think a rich map would cause knock, does it? |

You really can't run that much boost through the stock turbo, not with any efficiency. Everything I've heard and been told indicates 16.0-16.5 on pump gas is the absolute maximum you can pull, at least with stage 2 mods. You're hitting over 18 in your logs, and maintaining 17+ for long periods. Even if you don't knock, you're not going to run clean there. Also, during that first WOT run, your AFRs are way too low. AFR during those kind of runs should show up as "rich", at least once the system catches up to your throttle. This is because the stock O2 sensor can't detect less than a 12.0 ratio. You should be 11 or less at those load levels. Do you have an EGT gauge? If so, what are you seeing at those levels? A rich map won't cause knock, but it can lose you some power. But, in practice, you're not running rich. Those long strings of high 14s and 15s in AFR are lean, lean, lean. What is your ABC set to? Having your high boost levels reading 490 seems high to me, but every car is different. I would probably tune down boost, until you're seeing 16.1 or so, and tune from there. -Sean |

Also, the stage2new map is OLB, and you're running CLB. Did you set it up that way or did you get the map from someone else? The thing with CLB is, all cars are different. My car sustains 15.9-16.1 and peaks at 16.6 or so with 150 in 60%, 300 in 70% and 345 in 80-100% load sites, for all revs. Phil at TXS indicated that most stage 2 cars run around 310 in the high sites in CLB, but I've heard that some cars run 200 there and others run 400 there. So you should probably tune it down and then tune it up to where you want to be.

I seem to have fixed the knock, i can only hope its permenant, hasnt knocked since....
how i fixed it? Grounding mod.... amazing, would have never thought this would fix my problem, but it seems it has, when nothing else fixed it, i just put the knoc out of my mind and drove the car careful, until i could figure out what to do... well, i was looking at potential upcoming mods and saw the grounding mod, i figure what the hell, im gonna do it, so i go to my friends dad's car audio place and pick up some 8ga, 4ga wire, ring ends, and a distributor... I finish the mod, with a total of $26.50 invested, and go take it for a drive... push it hard, just laughing about the idea that this minght finx my knock... Well, sure enough, i noticed the mod, acceleration was alot smoother than before, with no stuttering at all (remember this, kinda like the movie speed and the gold watch), well, i start to wonder what happened to my knock, it hasnt happened once, so i go do a few freeway pulls, sure enough, its completely gone!! which brings me back to the stuttering, everytime i would knock in the past, it would stutter a little, then sure enough the cel would flash, and im knocking... well... its gone, im so happy, and it only cost be $26.50!! WOOHOO!! much praise for the grounding mod, im gonna give it some more driving tomorrow, but i havent gotten knock once at all since doing the mod, and before i could make it knock pretty easy by doing some WOT pulls |

less boost.. much less.. cut it down to peaking at 16.5 you wont lose any power as the turbo isn't moving any more air above that anyway....
Also you may have to add some fuel to the high load areas.. your map seems a little rich in lower boost areas and lean in others but that is assuming your stock ecu is doing things the same as mine but its different in every car.. to correctly tune fuel you need a WB02.... if you get your fuel map spot on it will be much easier to fine tune things... off the shelf maps are only a place to begin they are not meant to be the answer to your tuning prayers. |
