Default Monte is over, lets talk Rally Sweden

It is snowing right now and the 10 day forecast is going for snow on the 30th.. I don't think were going to have a dry Rally like Monte Carlo Is Citroen running in it? If so I wonder how Loeb will do? Is he just Tarmac specialist? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Id think Citroen would want to compete in Sweden seeing as they have Thomas Radstrom. While he's not the greatest all-around driver he is one of the best snow drivers in the biz. I expect to see him in the top 5 finishers. I think Tommi will be up there again also. This event has historically been won by a Swede or a Finn nearly every year. Id also like to see Gardemeister score some points here.

Tommi Tommi Tommi!

I think he is going to rule this season. He was so strong in Monte Carlo that I think it bodes well for the rest of the season. I think the Subaru really suits him.

Even though i'm a little Subaru Biased, i think Loeb Kicks ass! He impressed me big time this passed weekend, i think he's going to be tough competition for the rest of the big boys!! as much as i hate Ford i think they will take the win at Sweden.. i just have that feeling.. i dont know i may be wrong.. it's only a prediction!! Go Mcrae.. What do you think guys?

I think Loeb is the luckiest 20 year old on the planet. Out of curiousity, does anyone knows which rallies Citroen does plan to race and why they don't race the entire series?

Im pretty certain they just dont have the money to contend an entire season. I think their goal is to do well enough in 7 events this year to attract more sponsors. That way they can afford to run a full 15 next year.

Default The deal is

From www.wrc.com

2000
French motorsport's governing body created a new technical category to allow Citroen to compete with its Xsara T4 without having to commit to the entire world championship as World Rally Car rules specify. Philippe Bugalski took full advantage, winning all seven of the car's outings. At WRC level, Citroen occasionally fielded Bugalski and Jesus Puras in 1600cc Saxos, as it tried to build their experience in preparation for 2001.

1999
Work had now started on the Xsara World Rally Car (known as the T4) but Citroen still had the normally aspirated, two-wheel drive kit car version at its disosal and in Philippe Bugalski's hands, it scored two sensational victories in Corsica and San Remo. But despite the team's successes, the year ended on a sour note - having unveiled the T4 to the world's media, Citroen is told by its PSA bosses that the car will not be allowed to compete after all.

So, in order not to compete with Peugot head to head right away, and allow Peugot to win a couple championships etc, they held out of full participation. Peugot and Citroen are divisions of the same company, so the fact that they got fielded at all is pretty suprising.

Oh yeah, and Loeb is 27, not 20

Cheers,
scotto

Exclamation Snow rallies rule

This is the first season I've had access to Speedvision. I loved watching the little bits I could grab while on vaction, etc, but I just can't wait to watch WRC in the snow!

Monte Carlo coverage was great (considering I had nothing to compare it to) and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season.

Hey, no Citeron to screw this one up

The Xsara is going to be there.

Quote:
On the heals of the first “moral” victory in Monte Carlo, the Citroen Sport team will be heading off to Sweden to compete in the second round of the World Rally Championship, and perhaps seek revenge over Monte Carlo. After thinking it over Citroen and Sebastien Loeb decided to take the penalty that they had incurred when the team had changed Loeb's tyres in an area where it was prohibited.

Bummer, I don't exactly like Citroen after Monte Carlo, but maybe they'll be better in Sweden.

Tommi can get his revenge on the upstart Loeb. hehe, maybe this is a good thing after all.

Yeah, download JBuilder for free and let it do the work for you! Or Visual Age if you like that sort of thing.

ya, i was thinking of that, but im abit afraid of handing stuff in like that. Some guy said to get visual java, but i dont even know what it is, and if its like any other visual "x", then its just too damn easy.

Ha ha, way way WAY off topic, but anyhoo... Visual Age is from IBM. I would think JBuilder is better for things like, school projects, since it is relatively simple and you don't need all of the fancy features that just keep you from getting things done. It should be easy enough to mangle the code that JBuilder produces to look more like your own. This might be considered cheating, but I don't think so because trying to find the right placement of a JButton is rather mundane, why not just let the software do it for you? (Well unless you're learning how to build gooey's )

Anyway, back on topic... man I can't wait for the Sweden rally. It was awesome to watch them rallying in the snow last year, but I bet it looks even better with the extended in-car footage and front mounted cameras! Only problem is I might have to make a business trip starting Thursday, hopefully my hotel has SpeedVision. Hmm... I see a new thread starting.

Weather is still looking good, which really means bad it is going to have a little snow/ice mixed. wrc-online.net is predicting McRae is going to win, I'm not to sure about that. Xsara is running, so we will see how Loeb and the Citroen do in Tommi's neck of the woods (or close enough). What do you all think?

FUNNY! Maybe they will have some new ones soon? Maybe I'll just put the tv on mute because I still enjoy watching them, I just get so sick of the same voice.

So do you think we are going to see a lot of clear roads then? I hope not. Are there pics anywhere online that show the current road conditions?

Speedvision begins coverage on Thursday, Jan 31st at 8 p.m. PT, so 5 p.m. ET. I'm assuming they are going to do the nightly coverage like they did on Monte, their schedule ends on the 31st right now though.

Also this weekend is the Daytona 24. Not a Subie event but I've got some friends driving for the Children's Hospital team in Saleen S7Rs.

As I understand it, it takes a couple of years to become a registered manufacturer eligible for points. Each year a team is eligible to participate in a few more events. Citeon has not yet completed the term. They can only race 7 events this year. I beleive in 2003 they will be eligble for points.

Exclamation Watch out for The Moose

Quote:
The Ford Focus squad were in Sweden this past weekend preparing themselves for the second event on the 2002 calendar, the Rally of Sweden, which will be taking place this coming weekend. However the test session came to a premature end for Carlos Sainz, who hit a moose on Sunday. The extremely large animal, thought to weigh about 200 kilograms, seriously damaging Sainz's Focus, but both the Spaniard and his co-driver Luis Moya walked away unhurt.
