Default Anti-Seize On O2 Sensor, Bad?

I have been having idle issues lately, with front O2 Sensor and IACV CE lights. I am running aftermarket headers, so I did the spacer mod on the O2 sensor, and got a smudge of anti-seize on the sensor itself.

I am getting surging at idle now and wanted to know if it's the spacing, anti-seize, or a dead sensor.

I reset the ECU.

Bry.

Try cleaning the IACV.

Did a few times, no difference. It's the probe type sensor, not the reservoir like the WRX one.

I see what you did there.

Undo it.

So if Will's observations are consistent with what you did then are we to assume that you did the O2 sensor spacer mod on the front O2 sensor?

If so, good catch Will, I missed that when reading through it.

The front O2 sensor stays in the flow of the exhaust like it should be.

The rear O2 sensor is the one to get out of the exhaust flow as to trick it into reding normal. I did this with my first NA catless set up and it worked.

That statement needs modified a bit.

On all years, the front O2 sensor MUST be fully inserted into the exhaust stream, as it would be stock.

On 04 and older cars, the rear O2 sensor can be partially or fully removed from the exhaust stream.

On 05 and newer cars, the rear O2 sensor MUST be fully inserted into the exhaust stream as it would be stock.

Really? So, do you have to disable the resulting code, or can you otherwise work around it? I'm fighting this particular battle at the moment, and my car is getting P0420s, but they are usually clearing themselves in a day or so. The extender has not helped. With the code coming on and off regularly, I fear that my ECU is not really learning what it needs to...

This is with the OBX header on an '05 Saabaru NA car, and yeah, my exhaust kills my dandelions for me (no cats).

Exactly, at the moment, the only way to deal with the P0420 code on 05+ cars is to disable it in software. All of the mechanical and electric "tricks" to defeat the CEL result in fueling errors.

Well, thx. Not what I wanted to hear, but based on my experience, I'd agree. It IS close, though, because sometimes it will clear itself up. Guess Ima hafta get into the "Tactrix club", now, too.
