got it looked at the dealer, they couldn't replicate it like I had assumed.

the tech said this is an ongoing problem that he sees pretty often in 15+. He said the fork assembly is different and that 4th gear tends to be lower than normal, so it struggles to find 4th sometimes.

I'll have to see if the problem persists but so far so good

hmmmm..... problem stopped.

Not sure if it's the change in weather towards slightly warmer temp, but I haven't grinded 4th gear in at least 2-3 months. Have not changed transmission oil either.

Could just be the clutch delay valve hanging up. A lot of people delete them. That's what I'd do.
