Default Grind shifting into second on cold days?

So basically it's about -15c here and the first 4-5 shifts from 1st to 2nd gear I could feel the gears engaging, what I mean by this is it didn't really grind loudly but I could feel the teeth hitting and engaging.

I have a 03 JDM 5mt w/ the 4.44 gears and I'm using motul 300.

Once the car has warmed up the shifts are fine, a little notchy if I shift below 3k but if I shift at 3k they slide right in.

Is this something to worry about? Do I have an excuse to start sourcing a 6 speed swap? Is this just a Subaru gearbox thing and the 6 speed would be the same?

Just a Subaru 5-speed thing. They're pretty delicate, esp. in the Impreza/WRX platform, especially when modified. Some people have had success running different 75W-90 fluids in their transmissions, I don't know that I subscribe to the "cocktail" remedies people use for combining different transmission fluids, but many recommend Motul or Redline fluids for their 5-speeds. I feel that Amsoil works fine for my Legacy GT 5MT.
