Nikon D700 with a 50mm 1.8
iso 500 apature f8 shutter speed 1/800 I've done photography for a while now but only being 17 im open to suggestions i have not taken pictures of cars for as long as my typical work so they are not very impressive lol. I have had some difficulties with lenses, i bought a d700 and had a enough cash for a lens but i blew it on other stuff. So for about 6 months i was stuck using a kit lens on the d700 body. Now i have a 20mm 2.8 and a 50mm 1.8, both not that great for car photos but anyway this is what i managed to take with the 50 i have a few i will put up that i took with the 20 mm 2.8 as well. Anyone using editing software thats not Photoshop or Lightroom? As an amateur photographer I dont feel that paying that much for that software is neccesary. Ive been told Gimpshop is basically the same thing but free.

Just do yourself a favor and get Lightroom. It's worth every penny and is not expensive at all.

LR is only $100.00... Cheaper if you have a student ID and can pick up a copy on campus for even less. |

Fine, I'll be the first to say it. You could torrent pretty much anything you want for free. Just saying that does exist and you could do that.

Don't know if the deal is still going but Adobe was giving away it's CS2 last week. Like for free. I have used gimp, it's got a serious learning curve. I use a combo of the Canon supplied software (for raw conversion), Picasa (for the simple stuff) and PS Elements for the trickier stuff.

Yes there is a link in Armin's thread for the the free CS2, I'm pretty sure it's still good. If you have enough money to get into photography and are serious about it, shelling out a 100 bucks for Lightroom is peanuts compared to the other costs of the hobby. It will also produce better results when shooting with kit lens'.

then i must have it twisted. i saw PS for $699 and then Lightroom as an Add-on for $149. And i also so monthly options $19.99 etc. $100 for Lightroom sounds like something i could do.

Lightroom is a great deal. It's a very powerful software for a really cheap price. Also look into the CS2 for free. I heard about this recently, but I already have purchased the current Photoshop, so I'm not sure if it's true or not.

Free CS2 was a **** up by somebody at Adobe. It was put online for those who already owned a license for it temporarily because the activation servers for CS2 are being taken offline. Somewhere along the line, someone made it public. It shouldve been corrected already.
Also, CS2 wont open the RAW files of many of the modern cameras. I know it didnt open the RAW files when I rented a 40D in 2008. |

^^^ Really? Damn, someone's getting fired over that one, that's a big whoops. As far as raw conversion, I assume that every camera maker supplies you with software for conversion. I know it came with my Canon. Picasa (free) is capable of raw conversion, but it doesn't seem to work well with raw pics in low light situations.
There are a multitude of reasons why you should pay for it, the most simple answer being because it's the right thing to do... A more complex answer would be, this is why we can't have nice things... Last edited by NCORWRX; 01-27-2013 at 10:44 PM. |

Just ordered the 5D mark iii. Hope I made a good choice spending more. Kept going back and forth between it and the 6D.

I had to use the Adobe DNG converter to use PS with the RAW files. Its much easier to have PS/LR be able to read the native files. My sister started working for a local photo studio and theyre still on CS3 converting all their files to DNG before starting PP. It drives me insane. |

I usually shoot in raw+jpeg, but I find most of the time I just use the jpegs in PP, unless it is a really epic shot or those tiny details are that much more visible in raw, in which case I take the 5 or so mins to use the Canon software for conversion and go from there.

Ohhh don't get your panties in a bunch you guys, I don't even have LR4. For the very few pictures I do take there is no sense in me editing them. Better go delete all those torrented music downloads you have which I'm very sure will go over the $100 mark. |
