Default EcuFlash Mac OSX 10.4+ software

I can't seem to get the EcuFlash software for Mac OSX 10.4+ to recognize my 2003 WRX ecu. I can installed the software fine, but when I hook up the tactrix cable to the laptop and the OBD port, all the options to read/flash ecu are still grayed out. I have the installed the latest ecu definitions for ecuflash, green connectors plugged and my jumper block in.

Can anyone help me read and flash with my mac?

I don't believe there are mac drivers for the tactrix cable.

Why does tactrix offer ecuflash software for OSX 10.4+ then?

You can still use it to edit maps, same reason why there's a RomRaider install for Linux (can't use the logger in Linux because there isn't a Linux driver for the tactrix cable).

I have both PC and Mac OSX platorms. What's weird is that EcuFlash has a driver for Mac OSX and reads the cable. I wonder if someone is able to get this driver from ECUFlash and include it for RR.

It does?
Can you read/flash the ECU in OSX?

In windows, ECUFlash installs the driver for the cable, so then anybody else can use it (RomRaider, ECU Explorer, etc, none of them include their own driver).

Yeah it reads the cable, but I haven't used the Mac to connect to the ECU since I'm not able to log w/ RR. I've just been using my crappy PC lappy to do the gruntwork.

I will try tonight to see if it reads the ECU. Another weird quirk is that in RR, I can't open a ROM up at all. It says it's loading, creating tables, etc...but it doesn't show up after than. Again I haven't tried w/ ECUFlash yet...but I will try tonight.

EDIT: Not sure if the OSX will read OP 2.0, but it reads the 1.3U. Bottom right hand corner of ECUFlash reads it fine.

Here's confirmation of 1.3U working w/ Mac OSX 10.5.8.

It reads my ROM correctly and I'm sure I can flash. Can anyone integrate the driver for 1.3U in RR?

^Wow.

My macbook pro does not even start to think when I plug my 2.0 tactrix cable in. Maybe I should get a 1.3... See my deal is that I use my crappy old Toshiba to log, but I am seriously afraid to flash with it because it is so damn finicky with just crashing whenever it is over loaded. I really would like to log and edit with my Toshiba and the flash with my Mac.

SueBaroo, did you install any drivers or anything or did the mac just pick up the tactrix like any other usb utility?

Nope! Just connected the 1.3U and got it to work in ECU Flash.

I was about to order the 2.0, but decided to get a brand new 1.3U instead since there were a few bugs w/ 2.0. Plus you're going to have to connect your laptop to flash anyway so might as well stay with the 1.3 lol. If you're interested, they're still selling brand new ones on TunerTools.com.

Anyhow, I too log with a crappy Compaq laptop that runs out of batter w/ a quick status. However, I reformatted it JUST for logging and flashing and it works fine. I do have a power adapter that I hook it up to just in case.

What processor and ram are you running? I'm only on a Old Celeron 1.5gHz w/ 512 ram...I edit maps on my desktop or on the laptop for small changes.

I checked out the 1.3U cable on tunertools, but it says it is for drive by wire cars, and if I am not mistaken, my 2003 wrx is a drive by cable. I see that you have a 2003 wrx SueBaroo; is the 1.3U compatible?

I also had this Toshiba Satellite wiped and reformatted just for ecuflash and RR. Its an Intel 1.598ghz 512mb ram. The thing with my Toshiba is when it gets going the fans just cant keep up and it gets super hot and then just shuts down. So like I said, not a big deal when I'm logging, but flashing is another story.

Hence why I'm posting: I have a brand new macbook pro that I would really like to flash with but can't get ecuflash to recognize my tactrix cable.

The latest version of ecuflash for mac, ecuflash 1.38 doesn't support the tactrix 2.0.

To use the 2.0 you will need to run some kind of windows operating system. Dual booting your computer is probably your best bet.

Dual booting will work. I had parallels on my mac just to run game I used to play. Although I'm not sure the reliability, it should work though.

hey, i have the new macbook pro, just got it a couple of days ago. one of the reasons on getting it was to be able to tune my car without having to worry about it crashing in the middle of a tune. have you guys figured out what works best? with out dualbooting... any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is an old thread. But anyways Windows just don't crash for no reason, don't believe the conspiracy of Mr. Jobs. Anyways, Rom raider don't work on MBP, didn't on mines. ECUflash worked though.

I've used XP 32-bit without a problem and currently use 7 32-bit without a problem. Neither of them crash, ever, except for the rare occurrence when I install a piece of hardware with shoddy drivers, but that's not the OS's fault. I haven't had a stability problem with Windows since before XP SP2, which was what, 6-7 years ago? Granted the OS was absolutely HORRIBLE before that, but it's been pretty much solid since (ignoring Vista...lol).

I've heard some people have issues with the 64-bit platforms and RomRaider/ECUFlash though, not sure if that's been taken care of.

None of my experience has been through dual-boot on a Mac though.

32 has the best driver compatibility, 64 is really only needed if you want to use >3GB of RAM.
