We raced the car in the 2012 GRM Ultimate Track Car Challenge. Rocking some Element custom valved and sprung BC Racing BR series coilovers.
GRM Magazine photo-shoot. I had a fun time and we shaved 8 seconds a lap at OEM power compared to a stock FRS driven by pro Mike Skeen (he's more than qualified to extract everything out of a car). In the end we clicked off a 2:17.4 at VIR with only 155 whp. |

Looks really cool!
Would have been nice to have the same driver in both cars. 8 seconds is a big gap but those Hooisers have got to be the majority of it right? |

At VIR the tires are probably 4 seconds and the rest is brakes and suspension tuning. Another company had their coilovers, modest track tire, brakes, and a Grand Am pro driver and they ran in the 2:22s. Fender flares are carbon fiber and off of a Skyline and were chaching $$. Fit perfectly! If anyone wants them let me know they are local to us. You need huge tires to make it look right though. |

Needs front flares to match!
I don't have any need for that much rubber but that's some awesome repurposing! |

On street tires looks a little off in the rear so I'm thinking some 18x11 with 305sthe should do the trick Time for some HP! |

That's not a bad idea uncle...
But would it last under the conditions? |

Seems like at this point I'm the only one pushing this car hard enough on race tires to even have this issue. On three different race tracks the steering would get difficult in one turn only but the level of steering assist loss was different. In my last race at VIR it was entering "Hog Pen" and it made it difficult to push it there.
Hydra EMS offered a way for me to tweak the electric assist so that it would be less likely to overheat. I just hate getting suprised so if we make steering a little tighter as least it might not overheat and therefore will be consistent. This probably a me only I'm "special" option Last edited by Element Tuning; 08-01-2012 at 02:36 AM. |

I see no reason why not, if it was provided proper airflow...a small duct should do it.... maybe use a timer and a digital temp probe mounted to the motor....and adjust the duty cycle accordingly it would be quite simple and (murhpy proof) for somebody to fugure out, I think |

Yes I worked on a softer street/track setup using the custom BC coilovers. We (Hydra EMS and Element Tuning) decided it was best to ship my car to California to speed up the development of the BRZ/FRS Hydra computer.
It's been there for a few weeks getting all the CAN bus ironed out and the direct injection system dialed in. Until we get the car back we've been working on reinforced STi blocks and racing the bad boy STi. We tested the car taking the win against the Vipers in NY: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2406718 You can read up on the race and watch videos following the link in the Motorsports section. I don't want to rush anything with the FRS but I really hope to have it back in time for at least one more race this year. Thanks, Philip Grabow |

For a street driven car, I'm thinking a lightweight 17"x7" with a stock sized tire in a sticky compound, should offer a large advantage in grip from stock and would be the best all around upgrade, especially for people who are looking to maximize horsepower...would you recommend the same?
Any ideas of the weight of the stock wheels? |

For stock power a 17" is best because you can also get a shorter overall diameter which will help with acceleration. At the same weight and diameter an 18" wheel combo has been proven quicker by GRM Magazine.

I think for n.a. the smaller diameter will allow better acceleration but yes the 18" is quicker due to sidewall benefit. Overall the oem wheel and tire is heavy for the size. I think my 18x10 is 23 lbs but the massive tires are 26+lbs

Another set of wheels. Prodrive GC010 18x9.5 et 44 with 15mm 5x100 to 5x114 conversion adapters. Rolling on 275/35-18 Hankook C91.
Also ran the Hydra EMS full standalone computer on the dyno today to rough in the calibrations. I still have a lot more work to find the gains in the midrange but on a totally stock engine mod car that baselined 155 with my larger wheels (dyno owners oem car was 159hp) I squeeked out about 174 whp. Now I don't know if my crazy race rubber was the cause but with only 4k miles on the clock I've blown the driver's side front wheel bearing already. Thanks, Phil Grabow |
