Question mac people - any known 10.4 Tiger issues yet?

just wondering if i should upgrade the department yet, or if there are major kinks/compatibility/speed issues that won't be resolved til 10.4.1 or 10.4.2...

just don't want to create unneeded headaches going in to the busy time of year.

Only issue I've heard is that tigerdirect is throwing a hissy fit and suing apple over the name tiger.

I've heard there are issues with mail.app upgrading, so you have remove ALL of your Mail.app add-in bundles.
I'm not sure what else, but I'm too much of a pussAy to upgrade yet.

It costs money? 'Cause it isn't really a major release. I didn't upgrade to 10.3 until world of Warcraft required it, and by then the price had dropped to ~60 bucks. Unless something requires it, I'll be waiting for 10.5 about the time longhorn comes out.

hey!

i'm chilled, my boss is wanting to buy it ASAP, and i'm telling him to C-H-I-L-L, since early adoption usually means waiting for plenty of bug fixes, even from apple.

whew! glad i told our IT guy to stay away from that DAVE thing, since it's now useless.

arstechnica's 21page review seems to disagree

Conclusion

Tiger is the best version of Mac OS X yet. It offers substantial improvements over Panther in all important areas. The performance improvements are immediately noticeable. Every major bundled application has been improved. There's an unprecedented number of substantial, totally new features and technologies: Spotlight, Core Image and Video, Quartz 2D Extreme, Dashboard, and Automator, just to name a few.

This is all on top of the most significant revision to the core operating system in the history of Mac OS X. Fine-grained locking in the kernel prepares Tiger for future Macs with multi-core CPUs. A stable, abstracted, forward-compatible system for kernel extensions frees Apple to make more kernel changes in the future without worrying about breaking existing kernel extensions. And as usual, nearly every bundled Unix program has been updated.

For the first time in the history of Mac OS X, Apple has made progress in the realm of file metadata. While Spotlight plays it safe with external index files tracking information gleaned from existing file system metadata and file contents, Tiger's extended attribute APIs lay the groundwork for a much more interesting future. Uniform Type Identifiers add another missing piece to the metadata puzzle. If Apple can fully realize the potential of these budding, and still disparate systems, Mac OS X may finally catch and surpass the previous file metadata technology leader: the venerable BeOS. My fingers are crossed.

If you're still running Jaguar or earlier, you really owe it to yourself to upgrade to Tiger. It'll be the best $129 you've ever spent on an operating system. If you're happy with Panther, I strongly recommend going to an Apple store and checking out Tiger in person. Chances are good that there'll be at least one or two features that you'll decide you need, if not right way, then soon. As with any new release, it won't hurt to wait for version 10.4.1 or later.

Installed 10.4 Last night, all seems to be good. Spotlight rocks, as do the dashboard widgets, and I know its stupid but I really dig how it shows your current itunes track in the rendevous buddy list

Tomato Torrent for bit torrents works perfectly (I dont use the offical bit torrent client so i dont know bout that)

virtualPC seems fine by me... it took a couple extra minutes to load up my XP session but other than that seems a bit faster.

Edu pricing is $69 if you have any type of school affiliation or a friend/relative who does. Hit up all your PC owning friends in college to buy it for you.

Mail.app issue with an easy fix (that was hard to find).

If you upgrade to Tiger and then try to open your mail application and it has no messages in it or wont send or recieve or quit. Go to Library/Mail/Bundles and delete whatever you have in there. Quit Mail and then open it again. Took me a 2 hours of kicking it around and then finding it off the net to fix it. Other than ...hmm small differences... I just upgraded so Ill report more when I come across them.
