Exclamation My take on ClubSi.com 's downfall (dont let this happen to this club!!)

I posted this under another topic, but i thought it would get more attention in its own topic..

Ok this is my take on the whole situation..
Ive been a member of clubsi since it was a little club on yahoo with less than a hundred users, it was nice, we discussed everything that was starting to come out for our cars (because most companies were STARTING to work putting out parts specific for the Si (as opossed to universal civic trims)and we were a tight bunch, most of us mature and de-riced. Then the club got its own domain and changed formats to UBB, everything started out alright, BUT there was this little nagging forum called Si vs. All, a forum that started out with the purpose of people asking questions about how the Si would fair against so and so vehicle, and to relate drag stories. Now, by this time the club had grown a lot, and there were those who started posting obviously fake stories (Si vs stang GT/z28/ram air for example) Now somewhere in the middle, someone started alerting other clubmembers from other BB's of what was going down on that little forum (basically people spouting BS about how the si had beat so and so car) And then the migration began, hordes and hordes of domestics and other brand cars started posting and big flame wars came about. There are SOME domestic owners in the board that have become regulars, and their posts are insightful and somtimes they work as "watchdogs" of sorts. Now on to rice..
clubsi.com was featured in several import mags (you know how these are mostly rice-boy oriented) namely Sport Compact Car, and import tuner (i think) and Grassroots motorsports (good mag though) After those articles, LITERALLY hundreds of new users flooded our boards, and many many riceboys were among their ranks. Now, for me, personally.. the whole problem on clubsi.com resides in the Si Vs All board. If you are a clubsi.com regular, and you were to read the general and the performance forum only, you would see that the topics are VERY similar to the ones here. I believe that if we were to eliminate the si Vs all forum, and come down heavily on flame-inducing race stories, we would have ourselves a happy decent little board. But the admins are all for having the trash talk forum, so we can just sit back and watch the flaming, spamming, hacking of our once beloved gathering spot.

I think that the admin's are too inmersed in keeping the club BIG and with lots of visitors that they are missing the point of having a clubSI..not club HONDA or CLUB ANY FRIGGIN CAR .... rant mode off

btw, my best friend just got his MY00 SRP RS.. it ROCKS.. it has black leather with red stitching.. OMG!! I want!!

Thumbs up

I was on the SI board before i-club--PLEASE don't hurt me--hehe
anyway--havent posted anything there in MONTHS
it must have been about a month after i first joined that I started to see the CRAP BS posts popping up everywhere--UGHGHHH-totally turned me off--started to look around to see if a subaru board was around and found this great place.
I belive that the administrators of this board are way to involved in here to let any stupid
RS v. all posts or something to that effect rear its evil head in here.
If we all just IGNORE the ricers and uneccesary flamers--since we cant keep them out----then the i-club should be productive, fun, informative and just plain GOOD
Maybe there is some money for someone to design an anti-rice program-hehehe--then pitch it to Norton or Mcfee and buy all the Scooby toys u Want---HAHAHAHA

Question

Hey guys, don't wanna sound stupid, but what is the real definition of a riceboy?

Is it a window racer (stickers) or a car with all show and no go, or what?

I mean, I have "my" definition, that is one that all talk or just wants to flash and attract attention with no balls, respect or intelligence to back it up, but I dunno?

Si vs ALL instigates racing among a large number of Civic owners which a good portion of whom are still in high school. They should remove it. Granted, a few will post some kills on the General forum, like here. But you'll notice that for every time someone here posts about a drag race on public roads, someone is here to chastise them.

Cool

The "original" definition of a riceboy is someone who is so obsessed with making his car look "good" (it's all about perception) that he actually downgrades or ignores the performance of the car.

Now it's become such a household term with car enthusiasts that it can mean anything. Personally, I think a riceboy is someone with an extremely gaudy, tasteless car regardless of performance. And I also agree with the definition above.

It's one thing to slap on weird stuff, it's another thing to go overboard.

I was at a local 1/8th mile track the other night. When this "ricer" asked me if I was planning on putting any of the cool Japanese stickers on my car like he had. I asked him politely if it makes his car any faster or helped in the performance of his car. Needless to say he became very mad at me. Told me that I didn't know what I was talking about, yada yada.

Well I just pretty much ignored him from then on. Then one afternoon after I got my drag car certified he shows up again not knowing who I was. He looks at my Pinto and starts ragging me for using a Pinto as a race car. I got pissed at this point and told him to basically f*** off.

Ok getting to the point, I have over 15 yrs experience in drag racing. I know Ford motors inside and out. I bought a Subaru for the fact that it has a fabulous past and history. I both my cars. I don't need some 18y/o telling me that I need stickers to make a car look good. What ever happened to quality paint work and craftsmanship. I built my Pinto from the ground up. All my own welding, cutting and fitting. Don't get me wrong I do like the looks of the Wings and plan on getting on myself. I just wonder where has pride in hotrodding gone to.

Talking

It's funny,
I used to work in a High-end pre-owned car dealership in Boston. We would always get international students whose parents live comfrotably in they're home country. They're kids come to this country to go to school and need a car-or car's-
Most are very nice high end luxury or sports cars--Everything from Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Even Ferrari's
Anyway the kids tune them--sometime excessivly and kill the car--Ex.20in wheels on a clk430-Dropped 4in. SC-(that was cool though) gaaaaa_he was nuts- Anyone in Boston knows what I am talking about
Some of them would just do exterior and interior work--No GO-

So they bring the cars in to trade up or over to something else: M3 to a 911, etc...
They then would think that they're cars are now worth book PLUS the cost of their mods
This always made the staff laugh. I guess Rice knows no financial boundries.
They didn't relize that the minute you start to tune your ride, you have devauled it...Period.

Prog, funny that you should mention how after the magazines featured the site, it went downhill. After the Checkpoint Stage 2( premier Scooby site before the i-club) was featured in Sport Compact Car, it seemed like it changed overnight. Just went completely down hill. I thought ricers only read Super Street? Hopefully SCC won't feature the i-club

Hey, I have a Type R sticker on my car, it doesn't help me out in going faster...tell me how it works....I also got the red A on there, thats not helping me either...oh wait maybe its because its stock sticker and badge....maybe I need to upgrade it to aftermarket sticker and badge...

I know that this whole "riceboy" thing has been endlessly discussed on this board, but I still don't see why people get so upset about it. So there are people in the world who put the looks of their vehicle before performance...So what? I mean, do you think people buy Ferrari's just because of the performance? Of course not, half of it is because they want to get noticed. Granted, some of the problem seems to be that these "riceboys" supposedly have bad attitudes. I can't really comment on that, since I live near Detroit and the whole "rice" thing doesn't really seem to have caught on here like it has in the rest of the country, so I haven't encountered enough "riceboys" to tell what their general behavior is like...

JC I love the Pinto. It reminds me of my first ride. I had a Pinto Wagon with a 4 speed manual and lots of rust. I loved that car It just kept going and going and going!
Can you post some times for us? How much HP?
Your pinto just looks awsome! Thats what I call go power!

Synthman,

The reason why I teased montgog about a "Type R" sticker is coz his car apparently not an Integra Type R. The definition of rice : Ford Pinto drag racer with a Type R badge.

It's all in fun.

Thats not JC ride. It's mine. He put it on for me I guess. Thank you JC for doing that.
I'm working on somemore pics. Especially at the track.

I am having a hard time tuning the suspension. For some reason it is turning to the right. That has never happened before. Anyways. It has close to 700 bhp. About 600 getting to the ground. Has a mild 351 that is blown and on alcohol. I used to be able to run in the eights but that is just to fast for this short of a car. I took some boost out of it and slowed it down big time. I like speed but I don't want to wreck my pride and joy. So i'm happy with 9.60's all day with no problems.

I think your Type R stickers and red A are helping your performance. You just don't know it because you bought it like that new, the performance has always been there. If you were to remove them you would probably notice your car doesn't have as much pick up.
