Default Car sometimes does not crank/start?

I have 2.5 raw performance street series hybrid setup. The engine has been running great so far up until today. The fuel pump whined up but there was no crank! I turned it off again and tried a couple of times, then left it off for about 10 seconds and tried again then it finally crank and fired up. Is this an indication that the fuel pump is going out or something related in fuel? The starter does not appear to be dying as there was no slow crank or indication of a dying starter. Please let me know your inputs on this. Thanks.

If you hear the fuel pump prime (2 sec. I believe when the key is on) then it probably is not that. If you keep trying to start it and it eventually turns over? Next time it is not turning over try and tap the starter with a hammer and see if that helps. If so there is your problem.

Also other things to check could be a clutch switch going bad.

Food for thought.

Let me know if that helps at all.

Hmm okay. Yeah I definitely hear the fuel pump priming all the time. However the turn over on the starter, I don't even hear the click. Its just nothing. I will keep my eye on the starter.

So yours didn't even click over like mine. It would continuously prime the fuel pump and then later it would just crank like normal?

Hmmm, the zzzz sound I hear isn't that the priming of the fuel pump? I indeed do hear that, but always thought it was the fuel pump just priming itself. So it was definitely the starter huh? No more problems for you?

the sound is very annoying, almost sounds like as if something is grinding against something in a very high pitch noise. if thats the case just have the starter rebuilt and it will fix the issue.

the fuel is kinda like vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv but the grinding ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

have a 93 impreza AT AWD and im kinda having the same issues kinda. I get power to the dash and radio and lights. I hear the fuel pump prim when i turn the key, also i can hear the main relay click on and i can feel it click if i touch it. I pulled the starter and it bench tested good, BATT has 12v and im getting 12v going to the starter from batt and ground for starter is good. Tryed tapping the starter and nothing, Could it be a dieing batt that just donts have the CCA to turn the starter? Can i by pass the ingnition some how and jump the starter on the car and see if she cranks and runs?

Default 2006 wrx starting problem

I am having this same issue. I have a 2006 wrx. sometimes when I turn the key over to start the car I get nothing, no clicking, no grinding, just silence. The first thing I did was test my battery. I have a optima red top that is only about one year old and it tested good. I tested the cable that plugs into the solenoid end of the starter and had my buddy start the car all 20 times I got 12 volts on that line. I ordered and replaced the starter with a new one. After installing it I still had the same issue. After that I thought that the issue might be a loose connection to the starter solenoid, so I put some dielectric grease on the connection, but i'm still having the same problem. I've heard some suggestions that it could be a grounding problem. Also sometimes when the car does not start, if I hold the key in the start position for about 5 seconds it will turn over. When the car does turn over it fires right up with no hesitation. Any ideas?

Are there other relays in the starter path? like for the clutch pedal or like a antitheft relay that could be sometimes sticking?

for gods sake, DO NOT tap the starter with a hammer! modern car starters (around 1980+) aren't like your grandpas, the magnet inside them can break and chip off when you hit them. yes, it is logical thinking, but a very bad idea unless you want to buy a new starter. do some voltage drop tests to find out if it is getting enough power, using the power, and has a resonable resistance within the wires. using this method will tell you if it is the starter or not without the possibility of damaging something

Dude I said to tap it not hit it like.... (insert whatever you want here).... It is a tap so vibrate it a little. I do feel informed about my grandfathers car starter now though thanks
