Default Crack in bumper starting at headlight? Brand new WRX.

Went out to spray down and clean off my new WRX, and noticed a crack in the bumper starting at the passenger headlight and going about an inch forward.

What could have caused this? Hoping the warranty will take care of me here, I’ve only had the car a couple weeks.

A couple weeks old? It better take care of that! I see no reason they wouldn't take care of such an obvious manufacturer defect. I'm surprised though that this didn't turn up during delivery inspection.

Was the bumper removed for anything at any point?

That could easily be a pivot point when pulling on the bumper to remove it, as there is clips underneath the headlight.

Also, are you sure yours is a 2019?

It didn’t appear until this weekend, no idea how. I’m sure I would’ve noticed it at delivery.

It’s a 2018. Did I label it as a 2019 anywhere? If I did my bad. The bumper hasn’t been touched since I owned it. The car had 38 mi when I took delivery. My dealer said it hadn’t been test driven, but was swapped from another dealer. I’ll be asking much more firmly about the origin of the car during my appt tomorrow morning.

Your bio lol. Probably just a typo.

Are you sure it's actually the bumper and not just the paint? That's so strange. Any other marks on the bumper below that area?

The only other thing I can think of is it being pushed in somewhere and it somehow split right there.

lol. Oops. Guess I gotta take care of that.

This crack is def through to the plastic. There is a small scrape on the underside of the bumper, but all the way across on the driver’s side and nothing serious enough to cause a crack at the complete opposite corner without other damage being visible.

That really sucks, i don't think Subaru will cover you unless you've got a great reputation with the dealership. If it had been same day i could see something happening, but once you drive off the lot the car is out in the elements and out of their hands.

If a couple more are sold and similar issues arise there will be something, so wait in the event you're denied for a few more 2018s to be delivered.

I had a fight with Subaru over a paint issue on a 1 year old car which ended up staining the clear coat, i lost.

Yeah, I’m not optimistic, but I need to try. There’s another body imperfection that I should’ve caught at delivery and didn’t. Was prepared to take that hit, but then I saw this and am left scratching my head.

Never in my life have I had so many cosmetic issues in the first month of ownership. Rock chips suck, but are a part of life... body panels cracking for nothing are just salt in the wound.

Any updates to this? Curious to see what the dealer said.

Look at original window sticker and see what dealer the car was delivered to. That would check the dealers story of a dealer swap. I m sure you would have seen that on delivery to you. Maybe someone hit the bumper while parked?

Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth. It took a while, but a warranty replacement bumper was approved.

They had the car for a week, then after delivery I discovered that the install wasn’t done correctly, but the dealership made good and finally got it squared away after another visit.

Still loving the car 6k mi later.

Did you bottom out any time recently? I did this on another car by going down a incline too fast and it bottom out. Which scraped the under side of the bumper but ALSO pushed up on the whole bumper enough to get a similar crack in the plastic in a similar corner point.

I had a slight scrape on the opposite side of the bumper, but that was at real low speed and happened two+ weeks before the crack developed.

Nothing significant enough to warrant the crack, but enough for me to worry that Subaru would put the burden of this repair on me. In the end they took care of me, so good on them.
