Default Some residual goo after debadging

I debadged the rear of my car this past weekend. It looks AWESOME. However if I look at it in direct light up close I can still faintly see the outlines of where the letters were. I know it is probably just me being picky but would like it to be smooth at any angle.

Would a claybar be able to clean it off? I washed, and rewaxed it all but still shows up, especially when it gets a lot of dirt/dust on it(gone down a dirt road 2x already)

you may also need to use an orbital buffer and some polish if it's real bad

When I debadged my car, it left very very tiny etch marks in the outline of all the letters...its acually embedded into the paint, not real noticeable at all. hopefully its not the case here, but thats what happened to me

the best way is to use the enzymes from your tongue so you don't ruin your paint or wax job.

Just incase they come back, hit it with some 3m rubbing compound and then polish and top with wax. I did mine this weekend too and it looks nice.

I think this is how mine is, it rained last night so it got kinda dirty from the road, and the outlines are showing up a bit again.

Going to try rubbing compound this weekend, then claybar again, polish and rewax.

Dont use any rubbing compound, unless you want to take off the clearcoat
try goof-off,or goo gone a few times.

Put on some turtle wax bug and tar remover. Let it sit for like 5 min. Wipe it off and then use a blow drier to heat up the glue. The use your thumb to peal off the glue. Just make sure you don't heat it up too much or you'll get blisters on your thumbs.

Good luck.

There is no glue left, like jryan it seems to be etched into the paint(probably from being 4 years old) so hopefully some rubbing compound and maybe a buffer to polish it will smooth it out some.

How hard is it to actually debadge a car?
I really like the way it looks, but I'm kind of afraid of screwing it up.
Any suggestions? Serious ones would be awesome, but I'm prepared for the flaming!
Thanks.

I debadged my car this weekend. The glue came off no problem with goo gone. I heated it up first with a blow drier, and took the badges off with dental floss.

However, my problem came when there was a faint outline (not of glue) of the letters. You can only see it at a certain angle when the light reflects off a certain way. It looks as though this outline is etched into the paint, but you can feel the ridges of the outline when you rub your fingers across it. Its really annoying to me and I want it off.

ive searched and searched for an answer. Im going to try a claybar this weekend, but not sure if it will work since it seems the outline is not glue or dirt.

Any other suggestions?

.......the surface area around an emblem is typically hard to get at and is therefore easily neglected (and susceptible scratches, wax build up, etc.). "De-badging" reveals these flaws and will usually result in a visible border where the emblem once was. You will need to use a mild polish to remove the ghosting effect and restore the finish around the border areas. Personally, I would clay (to help remove any build-up), polish (to help remove the "ghosting"/scratches) and then follow up with your favorite wax.

Update:

I was having a problem with the outline of the subaru letters still on my wrb trunk after I debadged it. It wasnt glue but more of an etching into the paint.

I used a clay bar extensively, doing one letter at a time. After I polished, then waxed. It made a HUGE difference. I cannot even see the outline except for at ONE certain angle and in order to see it from there I have to look very very hard.

Yay for clay bar and some elbow grease.

Oh I used Meguiars clay, polish AND wax. Good products.
