It's more of a wastegate issue than the design of the DP. I've never been a fan of the HKS DP, but I will say I ran into boost creep issues when I was using an Invidia bellmouth DP which is a quality part and designed very well. I ported my wastegate and that was the end of it until I went rotated.

What exactly is porting? Is it like just rounding off the port?

Just a rough estimate how much for the EWG setup?

By porting, you're just enlarging the hole in the wastegate housing. It's not much. Do a search where people have done this and you'll see that there isn't that much to it and that the material removed is very miniscule.

As far as how much it would cost to switch to and external wastegate set up... I can't give you a ball park figure because there are so many options. Size of the wastegate, type of fitting for it, new up pipe, new down pipe, welding the internal wastegate shut, tuning, etc. It's a pretty comprehensive upgrade and from everyone I know that has gone that route on their stock turbos, they were quite happy with the results. If it were me, I'd just upgrade the turbo rather than go through all of that or just port the factory wastegate.

It's been years since I've done any power work, and I would imagine that someone out there offers a complete external set up as a package now.

Perfect excuse to tell my commanding officer(wife) to get a new turbo. The problem is getting it tuned and all that other crap. I can the mechanical stuff no problem, but the fine tuning is the hard part.

I'm looking The gt35r externally gated. Oh man! I'm going to have to hold off on that for a hot second. Just bought a new car. Can't do it for a while! I'm just thinking of converting to EWG. Maybe an STI turbo. And then I want to do my internals...oh gawd damn it this is going to be expensive.

Called my tuner dude and he told me that it could very well be my wastegate or my boost controller. He said that I can possibly buy a MBC to solve that problem. By far the cheapest option.

If I wanted to get a new boost controller the I would have to get a new tune. I'm tuned for a more less dense air condition as well. I got tuned in Vegas. I'm going to get a grim speed MBC for now to see if it works. But I'm leaning towards the EWG route. Like I said before getting tuned is the hard part.

Can anyone tell me if I'm good to run a stage 2 tune on my car with the mods I have or will it mess stuff up? I have a short ram intake and 3in test pipe and axle back, with a stock down pipe can I run a stage 2 with what I got?

I'm assuming that exhaust fit. All you need is a 3" DP and you'll be golden.

Yeah it fit, I search for like two days for a flange gasket that I found out I didn't need, and one of the hangers doesn't quite match up but it fit on there solid and doesn't move so it's good lol can I run the stage 2 with the stock down pipe?
