Tea Cup. Sorry that my problem is a 2008 but same engine, same problem, just a carry over. Sorry to waste your time.

I haven't had any issues so far. 8,800 miles and 07/08 build date.

All of your questions are answered in the first post. No, not every 09 WRX has had the problem so far, even those within the "problem" build date range (07/08-09/08). Everything, though, is really just a guess (including what the problem build date range is), which is based on the data we've tracked in the list. We don't know anything else other than what is in the list because Subaru isn't talking.

Yours what? Failed? You are going to have to be more specific if it is. Is it at the dealer getting the engine replaced? What is their diagnosis? What were the symptoms? Any mods?

Spun rod bearing, dealer replaced the long block inside a week.

Stock, sounded like the various youtube videos documenting spun rod bearing.

Yeah, Tea Cups' telepathy machine broke just last week.

Post up what happened to your car, the build date, VIN, and mileage it broke.

I've got a 09 WRX 5 Door with a 8219XX VIN and Feb/09 build date that I picked up on May 5th and I'm wondering if I'm going to be immune to this engine failure issue...

nobody knows if you'll be immune. But the evidence so far is that the only cars with the problem are those built in July-September 08, so you really shouldn't worry about it one bit, in my opinion.

let us know what the dealer says and if they replace it under warranty. Any mods?

its normal they are calling a subaru rep. The dealer tech will be the one who install your engine. The rep will just check if you your car failed under "who konws what happend" to granted the warrenty repair. They did the samething to my car.

so is it safe to look at the new 09 wrx hatches? i recently lost MY00 L and I was looking into the new WRX 5 dr. I know we can't be certain, but I really don't want to make a $25k problem and have a decommissioned car for a while. Sorry if this post is just to rant, but I was really looking forward to picking up the 09.

Many people will disagree, but I would say go for it. I did, just got mine (knock on wood) a month ago even after fallowing this issue . But seriously, judging by the data, and what conspiracy theories we've heard from Subaru, it seem the issue in "fixed" in the newer models (judging by the data that means built after September).

They are such a great car, and I just hit the lucky 1000 miles today!

My opinion is that Subaru has fixed the issue and the new batches are good. You see most problems in July-Sept. 08, just get one with a newer build date.

Not sure how applicable the issue is to the 08 STI engine issues (the Engine code and typical problems are the same) but i have one VIN 825226 MFD 01/08. No engine issues yet, did the ECU reflash recall around 4500 mi (was staying away from the redline prior) and I'm about to start modding.

Going to be probably ending with a intake, turboback, alc injection, front mount and street tune. (Probably just over 400whp with the alc injection)

Is she gonna blow?

I waited till April to buy my 09' 5door WRX, (built in Feb 09), so far 600 miles, runs great. Another 600 miles or so & I put in the Rotella Synthetic, Purone filter & Fumoto drain valve. My 04 WRX was a great car, but, this one is better.
