Default 2009 with an 08/08 build date?

Hi everyone-
I understand that some WRX's with 07/08-09/09 build dates have encountered engine failure issues. I found an 09 hatch Premium hatch (built 08/08) with 124 miles on it (being sold as new). They have it priced at 24,888. Not sure if I want to risk buying a car with an engine that may crap out on me. Even though it would be covered under warranty, it would be a pain to deal with. Any thoughts? Should I have this trepidation?

A leakdown/compression test was a good thing to get done with the 08's if you were having problems. Not sure if the 09's are having the same problems with the ringlands or if it's something else now. I don't think the dealer should be selling a car as "new" with 124 miles. I think either someone bought it and traded it in or it was used as the test drive car. Either way, that's a lot of miles for a new car IMO. Talk them down and have them run some tests.

Those build dates have a higher chance of having problems but even then the odds are still against that happening anyways. If I were you, I'd hold out for a build date 10/08 or later if you can just to be on the safe side.

btw, mine is a 07/08 build date and about 8500 miles and not one single problem.

The only thing is the miles.
it means it was a test car or a manager had it to beat on. It is a good price but figure it was prob beat on a lot even with a 36k mile warrenty your main problems will come down the line from the early beatings.

How do you go about asking the dealer about the build date? Is it as simple as saying.. "hey, what is the build date of that WRX?" or is it something thats written on the VIN tag?

Forget it! The dealer just came back to me with "an offer I can't refuse". Otd price of $25,700 after tax and his d&h! Get real. And the real kicker is the car now has 1,300 miles on it! From their "controller" driving it around. Uh huh, right. Pass.

It's on the sticker on the driver's door jamb.

They can sell a car as new no mater how many miles are on it so long as it has never been titled in some ones name.

My cousin bout a "new" 96 S10 in 97 that had 15,000+ miles on it. The truck was used by a GM rep and then sold as a "New" demo truck.

But he got the thing for a good deal. 6.5K off sticker and they put new tires on it, a bed liner and threw in an extended warranty for free.

With 1,300 miles and that build date I would walk away now.

Later.
