05 LGT 389whp/344wtq - My first time tuning!
I'll post this up to see what the tuning gurus and the peanut gallery think I know a bit about tuning, but have never had the nad to actually get behind the controls Since this setup is getting replaced in a couple weeks with a GT35R I figured I'd see what I could do with it. Here is the combo:
Block: Supertech pistons Manley rods Cosworth bearings Cosworth oil pump Heads: Cosworth cams Supertech valves and valve springs All the machine work and porting on the heads was done by a local machine shop. SZ55 with 3" inlet and 7cm2 turbine housing Megan Racing turboback (with a high flow cat welded in) PDE uppipe APS inlet pipe Perrin FMIC Perrin fuel rails PE850's Walbro UTEC running SD. There's more stuff on the car, but that's probably what matters. Here's the graph, I'm pretty happy with it, especially for my first effort. Straight 91 octane CA pump gas. No alky. 20psi tapering to 18psi. 95* ambient in the shop. EDIT: Check post #32 for even better results from a bit more tuning

I've seen professional tuners have rougher curves than that with a smoothing of 5. Not bad for tuning it yourself at all, should be fun until you get that GT35R in there, then it will just be scary

Thanks! With the smoothing set to 5 the lines were completely smooth and devoid of any kind of jaggies. I like to see if there is anything bad going on, so I left it on 3. There is not knock at all in the tune. The Dynojet is somewhat maligned here, but it sure is accurate. The tiny dip you might be able to see at 6250rpm is .5* of timing that I pulled from the map in that region because it seemed a bit knock happy. The car pulls smooth and strong throughout the entire powerband.

Actually Al has been posting graphs with smoothing of 0, and one with 2, as I remember. He posted one with a smoothing of 5 and I questioned it, but I'm not really sure I got an answer. I'm more referring to other tuners and shops that are not as popular here, where it is the person posting the graph and not the tuner.

A little more midrange torque with a bit more boost is about the only thing I think I can get given the limitations of our gas. Then again I could just switch on the alky system

I dont see where you are going, in fact you make no sense to me what so ever. I am sorry to introject myself into this thread, but I just dont get your point. I dont understand why yourself and the other gentleman feel compeled to take the OP's thread OFF TOPIC with your ill founded remarks which have no relevance to the OP's car or thread. The wonderful thing about a Dyno Jet dyno is that there is very limited adjustment that can be made other than changing the correction factor - (e.g. uncorrected, SAE, STD, etc) and the smoothing which can be ste ranging from 0 - 5. You simply push the button when you start the pull and push the button at the end of the pull the dyno does all the rest. IThis is what makes a Dyno Jet such a wonderul tool becuase they all read in a very similar manner. Dyno jet is not like some other end user adjustable dynos such as dyno pak, mustang, etc in which the dyno operator must enter in numerous variables which have a significant impact in both the ultimate power figure and the shape and length of the pull. I dont get how posting these dyno sheets from Harman Motive shows anything about dyno jets. Al |
