I've been running the H9's on my 2013 XV Crosstrek for about two weeks now. No issues at all. I'm even impressed how good they work in OEM reflector bowls! I did aim them down just a touch (even though I ran them at factory set height for two nights without any issues to oncoming traffic.) Just being mindful to others on the road. These in combination with the TRS Morimoto XB LED fog lamps are fantastic!

H11 to H9 conversion. DIY with temps
Is there anything wrong with wiring a socket that takes h9 bulb rather than having to trim the bulb every time one goes out. It can probably be done in the same time it takes to trim the bulb and then you only do it once. This will be my fourth time changing bulbs since I started doing this mod and it's kind of getting old

It takes me 10 seconds to trim the bulb with a pair of snips.
Buy spare bulbs and prep them, then keep them in the glove box. Beats hacking the wiring. |

Ok. What are these snips you speak of? I've always used my Dremel but the bit isn't exactly perfect so it takes a while. If it only took 10 seconds that would change everything

Small flush-cutters, like this or similar-
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3932532 Reach right into the socket, snip the tab flush with the socket body, done. |

Scooby, if you know what you're doing, go for it. Just get a nice, quality set of H9 sockets.
The good thing is, if you're in a pinch or just want to go back to the dimmer, longer lasting H11s, they will fit just fine. |

I'm using these harnesses without issue. I had to modify one end to facilitate H9 connectivity, but it's a one time modification.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CYB90UO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Seems like they're no longer available, but there are plenty of other vendors that carry these. |

You should leave a review on Amazon so that other people can see that you can do it. A couple people left reviews saying you cannot use this with H9 bulbs and you can, as you can see. I left comments letting other people know you can though. |

Just did this mod today. I purchased the generic Philips H9 Halogen Bulbs from Amazon.
I didn't have any tools small enough to get rid of that plastic tab so I ended up using a nail file and went at it with good old elbow grease. The install was a piece of cake for the most part. With the plastic tab removed, the H9 snapped right into place when I connected it to the headlight harness. However, the H9 would not "lock" into place when I installed it back into the headlight housing. That quarter turn to lock it into place just wouldn't give me that solid 'snap' telling me that it locked. Did anybody else have this issue? Looking at the bulbs it looks like the mounting structure is a bit different between the H9 and H11. I don't want my bulb to wiggle while I'm driving... P.S. I installed one headlight first and just standing back and looking at my headlights I noticed it was brighter than the stock H11. Not a night and day difference, but worth it for the price. I have yet to try these on the road at night. Will come back with an initial review tomorrow night if someone answers my question above^ |

-edit- Some pics... First pic is obvious mod you need to do.. I just took these pics- H11, older H9, newer H9.. See the differences? On the newer one you may have to trim that tab on the the top to seat the bulb all the way in. Another pic with tabs more clearly depicted. Last edited by BWX; 10-20-2014 at 07:13 AM. |

Thanks, and I am not sure when they changed it. On that older H9, I bought that about 3 years ago maybe.. something like that- at Autozone. The newer one I bought same place maybe 9 months ago, maybe longer.
-EDIT- added another pic above that wasn't as washed out with light.. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-N...ustom%2529.JPG |

Good call, I'll do just that. They're an easy modify to work with H9.. giving you the ability to swap in new bulbs (say, in the middle of nowhere in pitch dark) with ease.

I noticed that as well last night when I installed them. I just shaved it enough with my dremel. It still has a snug feel and locked in with the 1/4 turn.

Initial review of the H9: I drove back home from work tonight and the difference is totally worth the price! The H9 burns brighter and whiter than the H11. The width of the light trail also seems a bit wider than the H11. The height of the light did not seem to be higher than the H11 as opposed to what some people said. I was driving behind a Fiat 500 the entire time and my headlights were aimed right as his taillights (did not seem to be aiming into his rearview). I was also driving on a single lane highway with opposing traffic with no center divide; did not get flashed once by opposing traffic. Overall, I think this simple upgrade is a must for every owner! |

I just got home from work at this time of post, i355 is three lanes and I was lighting up all three pretty well. Of course when the highway lights aren't lighting my road way. It isn't that much whiter in brightness per se but the width of the light pattern - AWESOME compared to H11.

This is one of my favorite mods so far. My fat fingers had a hard time getting out that extra tab, but the light output is amazing.
I did this with a set of the PIAA 55w bulbs. |

I have a low beam socket that looks messed up. No power going to the socket either. I'm hoping its unrelated to this mod. Working on a fix

No, looks cracked. Not sure how it happened as I am pretty careful about the way I do things. Didn't notice it happen but last time I went to change the bulb noticed the problem.
And my power issue has been solved. The wire was corroded. Replaced the socket and wiring and everything is working fine now Sent from my iPad using NASIOC |

If you haven't, a good time to read up on realigning horizontal & vertical to make sure the headlights aren't blinding someone. I've been flashed few times and realized my vertical was a tad bit higher than it should be. |
