Default Dealer prescribe oil change interval?

I went to the dealer for my second oil change at about 7250 miles. When i got the car back, the sticker on the windshield said that my next oil change should be in 3months/3000 miles. Now, i know that the manual sugests oil changes every 7500 miles, and i also know about new oil change intervals for 08+ turbo engines which are 3750. So, should i go with dealer's recomendation or just do it every 7500 miles.
Dealer put Valvolind dyno oil in.

BTW I got raped on that 7000 mile service because i paid $60 for an oil change and tire rotation. I could have done it at home for less than half the price but it was just too cold outdside.

P.S Another question. Can i consider My Subaru.com service records as proof of maintenance?

The dealer goes off the severe service schedule. Subaru does 7500, but they also have a severe service(depending on where you live and your driving style) which is 3750. Most places put 3,000 miles on it. Then again, most people usually are 1,000 miles overdue.

You raped yourself. Of course you could have done it yourself, but you paid for someone else to do it.

You can save your oil change receipts with the date and mileage.

its in your manual... how do you drive? i'd only go up to 7500 if you don't have stop and go driving, and your normal commute is AT LEAST 15-20 minutes. Any shorter and you aren't getting the oil up to operating temp and will slowly add condensation to it.

non-synth oil at 3k, vs synth at 7500... i'd take the non-synth, especially in a NA, anyday.

Lets be fair. You paid for the convenience of them doing your oil and tire rotation. Assuming they did a good enough job I can't see that as being "rape". I have seen prices far higher for such a service.

Maybe you should do it yourself next time and not complain that you paid for someone else to do it for you??

For a turbo car you should do a shorter interval. I do 5000 mile intervals on my NA cars, using synthetics.

rkramer suggestion on post #4 is very good.
I personally go 5,000 on synthetic oil.
My wife's '04 Forester X goes 3,000 on regular oil, but, she does alot more short and stop and go driving than I do.

What do you mean proof of maintenance? Were the service records entered by you or the dealer?
I used to be the webmaster of the MySubaru site so I have a little knowledge of it

I entered things myself, it seems that dealers didnt put anything in or it takes too long for it to update.

I will do it myself next time, as I said it was too cold to do any work on the car and my garage is not heated.

I know this. However, anytime you pay someone else do it for your convenience, you really don't have any grounds to say you got raped on them doing something for you especially when that pricing isn't far off. That's all I am saying. Hey I can't do anything where I live.

Default Hint

Take a good closeup pic of your oil and filter receipts with the mileage and date on it and take a pic of your odometer also. Then burn the jpegs to a CD-R and put it in a fireproof lock box.

Todays modern thermo printed receipts can fade after a few years btw.

This is a really good point. They also only take about 2 days to fade if you leave them in front of a sunny window. And it's always sunny the week before you need to make a warranty claim.

not all dealers upload to your mysubaru site, so you can either enter it yourself or wait and see if they upload.

with a descent synthetic oil you can do up to 10 000 miles easily. There is Mobil 1 Extended Performance full synthetic oil can go up to 15 000 miles. Dealer recommendation of 3000 miles doesn't apply to synthetic oil.

I wouldn't be doing that kind of interval with a turbo motor unless you want to buy a turbo. Stick with 3750! Mobil 1 doesn't administer your warranty, SOA does and Mobil 1 even states on the bottle to verify your manufacturers warranty with oil changes intervals. Even with a NA motor I still wouldn't be going 10k even with my 2.5i If there is a problem, the first thing I just like any other advisor ask after they inspect the engine is your maintenance records.

Even still, I change the oil in my Cobra and LS1 every 5k with royal Purple my engines are worth more to me than saving 50-100 bucks a year on oil.

If you're going to go that long between changes then definitely have a used oil analysis done. I wouldn't want to go pushing the oil like that without knowing if there's still additives in the oil, it's still maintaining viscosity, etc.

try telling SOA that when you want to get warranty coverage.

Ive had UOA's, haven't found a synth that will go 10k in a wrx yet, so it isn't exactly 'easy'
