Default tune/cobb app question

i currently have my 2012 wrx hatch at it's stock tune. do you guys think it's better to spend the money to get the cobb app and have it tuned that way or just to get a protune? the only thing i have on my car right now is the spt cbe (stage 1?).

AP or protune, you'll most likely be denied of any warranty claims you make engine related.

With that said, I'd go with the AP for now. It's good to get started with and you can continue to upgrade to stage 2 later and beyond. The protune will be obsolete once you change another part that requires a tune.

If you're not going to add anything else to the car power related, then get the protune. But who does that.....

I doubt any other response on this thread will sum it all up as good as that one just did.

You currently are not stage1. Stage 1 is stock car with a tune (sometimes people also get an intake). I would get the AP and flash stage 1. That way you can easily switch between the stock tune and stage 1, as well as econo tunes, valet mode, etc...

First you haven't done enough research as you have to have an AccessPORT in order to do a protune as protune is a term associated with an AccessPORT.

Second, you need to go into the care parts review forum and read the 9000000 posts about the AccessPORT.

Third you should download and read the AccessPORT manual and all associated map notes for your car PRIOR TO asking this question as engine management is NO JOKE and to use it you need to have all the background information.

They might have coined it, but in the last 8 years that term has been adopted to simply be a shortened version of "professional tune"...accessport, open source, ecutek, hydra, etc. doesn't matter. Some people still live their life by the "protune = AccessPORT!" mantra, just like some people refuse to call a bathroom tissue a "kleenex" unless it really is from the Kleenex brand, but it's just a waste of effort IMO.

as far as protune i think i'm referring to what's called an open source, does that make sense?

Have you read the post titled Engine Management FAQ? Find it and read it 16 times. Also talk to locals in the NESIC forum. In the end, your easiest bet is the AccessPORT if that settles anything in your mind.

Before you make any purchase look into open source vs. accessport. Many many people simply buy the Cobb unit without doing this research and, in my opinion, could have saved a bunch of money if they simply went with an open source tune. Checked out Torqued Preformance maps, they are top of the line off the shelf tunes for the 08+ models.
