should be identical. Are your tires the same size?

even if the tires were wrong the speed would still read the same, it would just be wrong.

no matter what state the car is in, if you are in a gear with the clutch released the rpm and speed are always going to match unless the clutch is slipping. Its not like in an automatic where the RPMs can jump around because of the torque converter in certain instances...even then when you are cruising in gear the rpms and speed are going to be going to be the same.

I ask because on literally the same road I drove with the 2011 I could cruise in 4th at around 2k rpm, but 4th on the 2014 is too far below 2k to do so comfortably, so I have to be in 3rd at about 2.2k rpm.

Unless a) I am crazy or b) its just a normal variance between cars and/or whatever minuscule difference between the specifics of my cars (tires, etc) adding up.
That's weird. I can't remember off hand my rpms in 3rd at 30, but I do know that I never shift into 4th going 30. I usually shift to 4th at about 40 and that's right at around 2k rpms I think

the tire difference was the first thing I looked in to, but it wouldn't account for such a difference in speed/engine speed as far as I can tell. perhaps there is an issue with the gauges in either or both cars...I mean the 2011 had a few problems anyway. then again, transmissions are not my strong area, so I could be completely wrong.

according to this

tire-size-conversion.com/speedometer-calibration/

the speed difference at 30 is less than 1mph...so that isn't the issue. its a significant difference. I'll see what mph I am at in 4th at 2k soon.

I checked earlier when I was driving around. I'm right at 2k rpms in 3rd going 30 mph. And right at 2k in 4th going 40

Drove a friends 13 sti sedan w/ tarmac coilivers. I must say I really like the way they felt for a daily driver vehicle. It was actually the first newer sti I've driven. I really liked the smoothness of the transmission but I have to admit I'm not a fan of the 6 speed great ratios. As long as my 5 speed can hold up to stage 2 I'm happy. So far I don't see any reason why it can't really.

it can handle 350-400 if you don't beat the **** out of it

the sti is the way to go if you are going to be on the track a lot

not sure about how long it will hold up to stage 2 though, my friend bought an 05 outback xt with 125k a month ago(same tranny as us more or less). It only had a cobb intake and muffler deletes as far as we could tell. tranny was leaking slightly and it was making a funny sound in 5th gear. 3 weeks later it sounded like this

not sure if I posted this on the last page but w/e its semi relevant

I keep hearing that they made the gears stronger on the 11+ wrx's. Although I havent heard or seen any proof. Rsutton's seems to be working like a champ though and he even has a beefier clutch. I have been hard on mine atleast a handful of times but I'm not doing that anymore. Atleast until my car is paid off.

that's nonsense

08 got the stronger gears, its hard to find the part numbers but the price of the manual transaxle's for both years are identical on subaru part sites...really we just have 05-09 LGT/OXT drivetrains more or less

ok according to opposedforces.com

08+ 5 speed part number is 32000AJ180

Yeah I don't know either. Lol. I'll still drive my car hard sometimes but I'm not going to be slamming the gears like I was before. I'm almost up to 30k and then motul will be going in. Mine is covered under my extended maintenance plan with Subaru so I'm going to have to see how much they will charge me to upgrade to the motul instead.

Yeah when spring comes I'll be putting motul in. I have 27500 or so, I was gonna do it before winter but I'll just wait for it to get warm again.

I never slam gears, but launch it from time to time...generally letting the clutch take most of the abuse

i think our 5spd gearbox sucks. sometimes i have trouble getting it into third when shifting quickly. its one of the worst gearboxes ive driven. ive mostly driven german gearboxes in the past though.

it could be because i have the factory SPT short throw shifter and SPT bushing. maybe i should upgrade the front bushing too.

also, now that its getting cold out again. i hate the fact that the climate control on our cars puts the A/C on after a while. so strange. i have to manually turn the A/C off every time i set the climate control to auto when it turns it on about 30 minutes into the commute.

I put motul in around 30k, makes a world of difference. I also hate the auto climate controls. I never put it in auto mode

I rarely use climate control at all. AC when it gets >100, never really need the heater in Houston.

Yes the compressor pulls off the engine when it runs.

cold air does give you quite a bit more power

I think most cars with auto climate control default the ac on to help defog or something, that doesn't bother me, I just turn turn the ac off if I don't want it.

What bugs me about the auto climate control is that if its like 55-65 degrees out and its fairly warm in the car, you turn the temp knob down to 65 and its blows heat on you, then if you turn it to that colder notch under 65 it starts blasting cold air at you, so you have to turn it to fully cold and then manually lower the fan. I mean I guess it makes sense that its trying to bring the temp up to 65, but idk, never had that issue with my G35 or RSX auto climate control

yeah i noticed that too. there are some days when its impossible to set the climate control to what you want it to be doing, even if youre using the manual controls.

Yeah I always turn mine to full cold when it's pretty hot outside and the adjust it after it cooled down inside. Doesn't bother me that much but it is kinda weird.

I've never launched my car but I have dumped the clutch into second really hard a handful of times. Usually the clutch just slips a bit so the transmission doesn't take the full force. Really stupid of me to do but I was not used to awd, trying to get a second or third gear chirp I guess lol. No more of that for me.

The shifter bushings helped greatly, I recommend doing both. The Tic linkage bushings aren't really necessary Imo, I don't think it made a noticeable difference on mine. The spt ss is fine, you won't see a difference switching to the kb one. It's the same throw, the kb one puts the shift knob lower down which requires more force and imo it makes it sit too low.

I've gotten it on video twice lol

^ that time the IC pipe popped off the tb when I shifted into third lol.

I've burnt the clutch pretty bad a few times too. I've never like dumped it from 5500 though

I should really trade it in before it explodes
