Default Ceiling Rattle - 2016 WRX - Work in Progress

I posted about this issue in the rattle thread, but got no response. I'm hoping this can help others out...

Background: I have a '16 WRX w/ moonroof and just over 5K miles. With the weather getting colder, I started getting a rattle from the front ceiling area, right around the moonroof buttons/map lights. If I push up on the ceiling panel, it seems to stop the rattle.

I'm working on resolving this issue and decided to post pics of my progress in case anyone else has this issue (or, for that matter, is curious about changing map light bulbs).

To remove this portion, slip in a flathead screwdriver and gently pry out the map light cover. (One thing you'll notice is that the cover seems designed to prevent light from getting through. ) You can now change the bulbs if you desire. If you're trying to resolve the rattle issue, you will see two Philips head screws. Loosen those and then gently pry out the whole thing. My goal is to tape up anything that seems loose and could cause rattling.

I thought I had a rattle in my headliner too - turns out it was just the passenger side visor.

Did you ever find a fix for this? I haven't even finished my (*&(*& break in period and I have the same rattle. So distracting I can't enjoy the car.

I've realized that the sunroof cover(screen?) rattles only when I have the sunroof tilted.

I get this too. My fix is to slide the cover about 1" from the back and it stops the rattle.

Default Ceiling rattle

Did anyone ever find a fix for this rattle, happening even on smooth roads and driving me crazy.

I'm big into audio so I can't stand rattles and I had the same issue. I have a 2018 with sunroof as well and I've managed to get it about 90% sound deadened. I took that same piece off, placed a piece of sound deadening over the metal piece then stuffed some polyfill material around the area inside the headliner to basically cushion it from the roof, then I slid a square piece of 1" foam over the exposed opening and put the map light console back on over it.

Most of the rattle seems to be coming from the wind shield that pops up when you slide back the moon roof.

So, if the rattle anyone else is hearing sounds like a loose bolt or screw rolling around...that's because it is.

I just pulled out the 2nd #7 bolt in the past year, from behind the map lights/moon roof buttons.
