Default Meet the 700bhp Chevy Camaro

It’s been built for an animated movie called ‘Turbo’ about a snail that wants to race
Quote:
Believe it or not, people of The TopGear.com, that monstrously bloated Chevrolet Camaro in the picture above has been built for a children's movie; an animated, children's movie.

Despite sporting a front setup that looks like its pint has just been spilled all over its face, the mad Chevy is a promotional tool for an upcoming DreamWorks movie called Turbo. It follows the adventures of a snail who dreams of becoming a racing driver. Geddit? A snail! As a racing driver!

Adorable premise, you'll agree. Sadly, the underlying premise of this Camaro - which we're assured is "instrumental in transforming him [the snail] into a racer" - is anything but adorable. If you look closely, you'll spot the ‘ZL1' badges, indicating this thing sports a 6.2-litre supercharged V8; the same V8 that sits inside a Corvette ZR1.

Top Gear drives the Camaro ZL1
In standard form, the Camaro ZL1 is good for 580bhp, 556lb ft of torque, a 0-60mph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 184mph. It will also hit the quarter mile in 12 seconds dead. This MonsterCamaro has been more supercharged, to the tune of 700bhp. No performance figures were given, but it's probably fast enough to scare small pets.

It also gets fully customised lower rockers and flared arches, a new front splitter and rear diffuser, huge rear wing, LED headlights, 24in alloys, a custom bonnet and adjustable suspension all round.

Now, before you go screaming into your sandwiches about this concoction, remember: it's a car built for a children's movie. We just hope someone cheers the ruddy thing up...

Those over-fenders need to make it to production some how.

Forward visibility doesn't look so good. If the regular version was like driving a tank, this must be liking driving a sub.

I have a feeling the scoop would fly off past 30mph.

And why do all this to a ZL1? Why not a base model v6.

Because someone is intending to take it home after the movie is forgotten.

Because pulley.

I'm sure it's easier to build a 550 hp engine into a 700 hp engine than to take a 300 hp engine and more than double it's output. It sounds like it retains the LSA from the ZL1, from the description.

But...it's for a movie...a children's movie.

You could tell them it has a million zebra powers, they wouldn't know or care.

Especially since they painted the windshield black.

I think most of us can agree: the wheel arches look good, and to hell with the rest of it.

The movie is about a snail and literally called Turbo but they use a car that's supercharged...

Eh, nitpicking.

When power is provided by a turbine powered by exhaust gas, a supercharger is known as a turbosupercharger[1] - typically referred to simply as a turbocharger or just turbo. Common usage restricts the term supercharger to mechanically driven units. (Wikipedia)

A turbo still supercharges the air supply.
