Amber LEDs into Bugeye front parking lights?
Has anyone here tried putting Amber LEDs in the parking lights in bugeye headlamps? I recently installed some STi carbon fiber side marker covers, and I'd like to bring back some of the amber light for safety reasons.
It's the small light with the refractive lense housing, on the outer side of the headlamps. If no one has, at the very least can someone tell me what the bulb size and type is? Edit: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...parking+lights This is the only thread I could find directly talking about replacing the parking lights. However, everyone is replacing them with white or blue, I'm curious to know if anyone has tried amber. Also, I'm not entirely sure if the bulb size is the same in bugeye lights. i've got amber LED's up in front, just search ebay, there are lots out there. They are a little dimmer then regular bulbs, and unless you replace the standard flasher with one without the light out detection, the flash rate is about 3x as fast as normal.

I'm not talking about the turn signal indicators, but the small parking lights. You know, the lights with the small flat cone over them.
Unless what you are saying is that the signal indicators and the parking lights are wired into each other...in which case I guess I'm going to just be looking for an amber bulb replacement. Don't want to mess with resistors. |

then just get an amber color LED parking light? I don't think the car can tell the difference between clear and amber light.

www.superbrightleds.com they're um.... really bright. Though pretty white too. I have my smoked side markers wire tapped in as turn signals and they shine brilliantly through the vinyl. I'm soon to also be testing them in the headlight parking lights which also happen to be under a vinyl overlay. |

I've purchased those for my plate lights. Thing is, I need amber for the headlamp parking lights.
I went ahead and ordered some of the wide-angle 5LED lights while I was at it. I'll posts pics of how it turns out. |

Well, here are the results.
I put the wide dispersal 5-LED amber bulbs in the parking lights. They are not as bright as they appear in this picture unfortunately, but they do the job. They have brought amber corners back to my car, which my STi side marker covers removed. I was a bit peeved to receive one of the amber LED's damaged. The wiring on one contact pretty much fell off the second I removed it for the package. I was able to shave some of the plastic housing off however, and expose more of the wiring, and bent that back to do the job. While I was at it, I decided to go for broke and put the ever-popular ultra white LED's in my plate lights. These suckers are bright. They are actually projecting light down onto the pavement in noticeable amounts. Overall, I am happy with the results. Let's just hope the amber ones don't burn out from the "extreme heat" present in the headlight housing. |

i've done it.
they do burn out from the heat over time. at least mine did. it does a really weird strobe flicker thing sometimes, then just goes out. these were lighting specific ones so i'm pretty sure it's like s-techs... slowly but surely. i just went ahead and got amber incandescent bulbs. looks better. |

Yeah, I probably will just shove amber incandescents in them too when they burn out. I just figured this would be an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone and get the plate lights too.
And it's not like they were expensive or something. |

true, but it's ten bucks you can spend on food if you would rather(as opposed to not ordering anything at all)
i have amber incandescent ones for my liscense plate as well... i'm actually worried that a cop is going to pull me over for it. so far no one's noticed afaik. i'll probably do the white led plate lights when / if i get tsx hids in. |

Still be cheaper than any sort of ticket I now hope to avoid since I have amber corners on the car again. When I installed those STi covers I kind of forgot they were the only source of amber on the corners of the car. I still don't meet regulations with regards to REFLECTIVE amber on the corners, but at least now I have light.

yeah reflective amber is actually a kicker in that situation. i doubt amber led's would save you if a cop was actually going to ticket you for improper lighting. then again, depends on the cop.
