I joined the club this morning. Just picked up my '11 wrx last week. I very slowly went over a dip in the road in construction area and heard a slight scrape. Checked when I got to work and sure enough, the same damn spot as all of the above

Add me to the list
got 7500 miles before I cracked it
So if I get 150000 miles out of the car I should only need 20 bumpers

Not bad

add me in as well. Ive had mine for about 8 months now and it cracked right after I got the car. Mine was actually from snow..apparently the car can go through 6 or 7" of snow but the bumper cant.

Mine cracked as well. I am getting some painting done this weekend and my guy is just going to fix the crack. I figured Subaru wouldn't do anything for me and tell me it's my fault...

Here is my response from SOA:

At this time there are no recalls or service campaigns affecting your vehicle for this concern. I have left a message for the Service Manager of your dealership to review what we can do to help you. I am an avid NASIOC follower - I do believe I saw your posting from the 4th. What I can advise you is that there are no recalls and many of the cracked bumpers we see are caused by impact.

We review each customer contact on a case by case basis. I am in the process of reviewing what we can do for you and will be back in contact with you once I have obtained additional information from your dealership!

I'm not really sure what my dealership is going to tell them. They already took pix and sent them to SOA who said no.

Why would a dealership care? That is even farther from SOA caring. That response is what it is, I will translate - "Not our problem", and here is the buck passed to someone else who also will say "not our problem".

I've had my crack for awhile. I just found this thread and it's a relief i'm not the only one who thought this was ridiculous.

I would say i got mine around 700 miles.
Although it was caused by me, it was a light bump into a parking block. I'm severely disappointed in the quality of construction of this bumper. It's in the name, it's suppose to be able to take bumps.

I'm bummed as all of you are, not only because it's our new baby that is broke but that it took so little to harm it.

While I don't imagine a corporation would fess up to a production error that doesn't directly affect safety, it would be nice to hear they acknowledge there is an issue and are working on resolution.

Add me to the list too! Tapped a curb parking one time, in the pouring rain. Only had 600 miles on her at that point. Weird that they crack in the same spot

F' you guys are pissing me off...Whining about a crack that YOU caused... I too have a crack but I know I "touched" a curb, and there it was.... Was/is it Subaru's fault? no... It was my fault... I touched the curb and the plastic bumper cracked, what do you/would you expect... A 3,200Lbs+ car touches a curb or the ground and the plastic bumper cracks WOW what else is new? I guess Subaru should lift the car up 2" make it into an SUV and voila, problem solved...

Will a 2009-2010 bumper fit? I am thinking if it sits higher, and is built better, then maybe that would be a better alternative? I was washing my front bumper today, the right side seems to move a lot, just seems extremely flimsy, plus I've already scraped it because of how low it is.

I have the crack as well, I took the smallest drill bit I had and drilled a tiny hole above the crack to keep it from spreading (AKA Stop Drilling). It's a technique i learned from a guy who repairs metal on airplanes. So far so good, it hasn't spread any further and you can't even see it till you get close, F spending $700 to get a new bumper cover that is just gonna get beat to crap anyways. Just my two pennies.

I've done way worse in my honda without a problem.

It's the fact it took so little to cause the crack.

I'll stop feeding the troll now.

Me too. I haven't cracked mine yet but I know its coming, especially with the amount of snow we have been getting in the past few years in NJ.

I had an S-10 Xtreme before this and if you see one, look at the front airdam. They usually cracked and split directly down the exact middle. This happened to me, too. But, it took a lot of abuse for it to finally happen. It was an '01 and I think I went till about '07. I know that I rubbed it many times before that incident with no problem. That was the weak point. No other cracks occurred over the life of the truck.

These aren't Ferraris designed to be kept in a garage and driven on Sunday. These are every day cars that should hold up to a few light bumps or rubs when coming out of a driveway.

I have a feeling that this might be addressed by Subaru.

Just hit something big on I-94 at night. Cracked the bumper cover right in the middle. $700-$800 quoted for parts and labor.

Because of this thread, I just walked outside of my office to check my bumper... No cracks yet that I can see. Scraped the driver side lightly a week ago exiting a sloped parking lot. Maybe I should put some reinforcements in there...

This is very similar to the first WRX's that came out with the crappy windshields (2002 bugeyes) I had mine for 4 days and got a crack in the windshield

Maybe its something about a 1st gen car from Subaru

SOA has to realize its no ones fault but theirs that this is happening. I traded my 2007 WRX wagon in on a 2011 hatch about a week ago and all though mine hasn't cracked (yet) after the first wash the first thing I noticed was how much thinner the bumpers are compared to the ones on my 07.

You TOTALY missed my point... "Slight" Is relative, Put your finger between the bumper and a curb and have a couple of buddies push the car so it just touches and see if you yell to stop first or the bumper cracks first... What may "seem" slight in a 3,200LBS+ car can actually be some MAJOR pressure.

Where are you getting "slight" from?

No one is arguing that there is a lot of force when a car bumps a curb or parking block.

When I say it took so little to cause the crack, I'm basing that off past ownership of vehicles.

Is this your first car?

P.S. How old are you? because you form your posts like a bieber fan forum. (not that i know what that looks like)

slightly refreshing to see that this is a common issue, I hit a curb (not used to a car this low yet) in a dunkies, and it cracked, no scratches or anything just cracked. Although when I look at it, looks more like when the bumper hit the plastic warped and sheared off since the "crack" is more angular than straight up/down.
