CEL P0442/P0457? (Help Needed)
I have been riding with my CEL on for a while and I finally got a chance to check it with Dave's scanner. I pulled these codes...
CEL P0442: Evap Emission Control Leak (Small) x 2 CEL P0457: Evap Emission Control Leak/Cap Loose I have tightened my gas cap so hopefully that will be going away soon. As far as P0442 I found that it is connected to the loose gas cap issue, but is also triggered when you replace/upgrade the fuel pump, which I did recently. Is there any way to remedy this situation? Replace any seals? Or will I be ok? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

A code should not be triggered when you replace the pump unless the pump retainer seal was not installed correctly( and you would smell fuel in the cabin if it was not )...only if the evap pressure sensor detects a leak. If tightening the cap did not fix it, check all the evap lines that run under/around the intake and also the line going to the evap canister under the rt rear bumper cover. Make sure the canister itself is not cracked. If all the lines pass inspection, I would replace the gas cap.

Thanks for the help Rick!
I do smell fuel a lot more since I installed the pump and injectors, but I thought that it was a by product of running more fuel. If the seal was not installed correctly, then is it just a matter of me removing the FP and readjusting the seal? All the evap lines look ok and there doesn't seem to be any loose connections. The canister doesn't look cracked, but I will check again. Would fuel be collecting in this area if it was? I see no leaks there. Could all this stem from a faulty gas cap? |

A faulty gas cap will not usually cause a fuel smell....I would check the tank plate...pull the back seat out, remove the cover and put your nose near the tank plate...you should smell NO fuel at all...if you do, there is your problem. _R Last edited by RickInLittleElm; 03-28-2006 at 02:10 PM.
