My cable flashes on my 2005 Forester XT. I did need to use the ECUFlash that was included in the BFM Cable Install folder.

madjax, any chance you would want to create more of a step by step instructions on modifying the cable for electronic "dummies" like me? There are a couple steps I don't quite understand.

I gave Madjax's vag-com mod a try today with one differance, I didn't use the 12v regulator circuit I just jumped from pin 16 to pin 11 (same as 04+ owners have started doing so they don't have to wire from the battery to the 4 pin Jump Block).

I can now read and write to the ecu no Worries.

My car is an ADM 04 but uses the same "wrx02" flash method (all ADM wrx 01 to 05 use the same method).

Thanks Madjax, I'll be sure to ask if I have any questions. I ordered a cheap Vag-com cable like graemy1 used and the electronics guy at my work is going to give me a hand with it.

I'll let you know how it goes and if I have any questions when the cable arrives.

I could not get it to work with the newest ECUFlash however I installed the one in the BFM folder from their website and it worked. You do have to be somewhat quick with your timing when you click the button and when you turn the key.

I bought the BFM cable and I can not get anything to work. I'm trying it on a 2006 wrx. I install everything and everything seems to install fine but when I plug it into the car nothing happens. For ECUflash the read button is grayed out and I can't click it and for Romraider it says unable to send to the ECU and check the cable and make sure the ignition is on. I'm using a laptop with windows 7 64 bit and I tried running as administrator. Nothing works. The ECUflash is version 1.32 from the bfmzipfile and Romraider is the newest version. Anybody have any ideas?

Bought the BFM used from a person on here. WORKS GREAT! I just flashed out my CEL's that have been pissing me off since i swapped my car.

04 STI, i've been data logging for 2 days now. Great product. SO much BFM bashing on this thread, i thought i would bring some positive light.

Ive tried newer versions of ECUflash and same problem. I connect the green plugs when I try ecuflash and disconnect them when I try romraider. Ecuflash I don't see any differnent com ports and romraider only gives me the one option and I have tried plugging it into different ports. I think it has to be the driver installation for the cable. My laptop doesn't follow the exact way he shows in the video. I have to stop Windows for searching for drivers then I go to devices and printers and go through properties. It is then similiar to the video for installing the driver but I only have the option of doing it once instead of twice like in the video. When I'm done the cable shows up as a USB Serial Converter.

Download the program "learnview"... see if you can connect to that.

Learning says an error has occured. See log for details. In the log it says the port doesn't exist no matter what usb port I plug the cable into.

I try downloading it manually. I'll list the steps I try. When I plug it in the windows starts automatically searching for the driver but I stop it. Then I go to devices and printers and the cable says USB2.0-serial with a yellow warning mark next to it to show it doesn't have a driver. I go into the properties of it and go to update driver. Then go through the steps as he shows in the video and select the bfmoportflash.inf file. Then it appears to install correctly but it just doesn't work.

The light on the cable is on

windows 7 as a native driver that will work with your cable. plug your cable in, go into the device manager, and on install the drivers that you are currently running. unplug the cable and reboot your computer. turn your computer back on and make sure you have an active internet connection. allow windows to find drivers for your cable on its own don't install anything that came with the cable

Do this... uninstall all version of the driver. Me thinks there is residual versions of the files that are corrupting the install... also what vs of windows are you running???

Basically there is a problem between your drivers and O/S..... the cable is fine.

Does the question mark go away? Try starting fresh. Uninstall and start over. Cables are basic

Hi,
i've made the same thing for a cheap VAG V3.1 cable, do want u want with it:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I've also buyed a $7 vag cable from DX.com: it's exactly the same (intenal & external) than the BFM one sold for $49.99 .

So you can have a $7+little job cable that can read, flash & log your 02+ SUBARU (WRX, Forester ...)

does it matter if i don't add those copper lines you have on the chips?
all i did was add the red and white wires you have.
