Default 2008 WRX suspension? clunk/pop sound.

I've had my car for two weeks or so now and I've noticed almost every morning on the first turn (left or right) I'll hear a slight clunk/pop come from the back of the car. It sounds like its coming from the rear suspension possibly. Everything seems fine, car drives normal, handles normal. Just curious what that initial pop might be.

Any suggestions would be appreicated. Thanks.

Ive had my car six days and I experience the exact same thing, pulling out of a parking spot that intial left turn I can hear a popping sound coming from the rear. Im thinking of taking it to the dealer to see what it is.

Good luck, i was gonna post on this same issue.

I cross posted this over @ WRXFanatics and had some responses back:

If you do go to the dealer let me know how it goes. I may do the same!

Best,

Eric

I had one major scratch in the front passenger fender I noticed as soon as I brought the car home. I was coming in the next week to get my sport grill installed and told them about it. They took care of that one (as well as taking off the damned dealer sticker on the back). The guy that fixed it said he has seen more scratches in the 08s paint (all Subaru models) than any other previous year. The guy is sourced by the dealer and he works for other car dealerships as well, he said a lot of car companies are having paint issues with the 08-09MY's due to the new EPA guidelines or something along those lines.

However the car has light swirling throughout the car (OBP) I think that was the previous dealers fault (my dealer picked it up for me from another dealer).

They didn't take care of that and I don't know if they will now. I'm going to get them out in a week or so once they sweep the roads. I figure if I gotta put the elbow grease in I might as well wait until it will last a few weeks.

PM me if ya want about the paint. I'd like to keep this thread on topic .

Thanks!

Eric

I've heard the same issues with other makes besides Subaru due to volatile evap requirements of automotive paints from several friends that work @ dealerships. My friend @ work has like 2k on his WRB WRX sedan and it's swirled like hell...

My car makes the exact same noise. It sounds like it's coming from the front, and it only happens once, on cold starts. And only on the first left turn. Weird.

Just a thought for the people experiencing the rear noise.

The e-brake on Subarus is a drum inside the rotor. When you let off the e-brake the shoes don't retract right away. They sort of self adjust back to the full released position after driving a few feet. The sound could be the shoes retracting suddenly.

Try not setting the e-brake next time you park it and see if it still happens.

Don't mean to bring this back from the dead, but I posted on something like this. From what people were saying, its the ABS self test.

I get the ABS self test noise, but only the first time the car is put into forward gear after turning on, and not after that. Also sounds to me like that sound is from the front.

by the way, don't feel bad about the paint. Nissan paint is even worse....
