Default 2022 Honda Civic Thread

2022 Honda Civic Will Be Quite the Looker, Debuts November 17
Quote:
Honda's giving the first official look at the 11th-gen Civic in prototype form before its reveal next week.

has given a first look at the 2022 Civic sedan, and it's an inviting redesign.
The car, in prototype form, will be revealed during a Twitch live stream on Tuesday, November 17, at 9:45 p.m. ET.
The 2022 Honda Civic will go on sale in spring 2021, starting in the low-$20,000 range.

You'll be inclined to swipe right on the 2022 Honda Civic when you see it because the 11th-generation sedan will be much more attractive than its somewhat awkward-looking predecessor. Honda will unveil a prototype of the next Civic during a live stream on Twitch on November 17 at 9:45 p.m. ET.

2022 honda civic teaser

Honda will only offer the 2022 Civic in sedan (which we're seeing here) and hatchback forms, discontinuing the two-door coupe models. The next-gen car will have a better looking athletic and angular design, which reminds us of the newly redesigned 2021 Acura TLX, which is getting a 355-hp high-performance Type S model. The prototype version, which we'll see before the production-ready car, features a gloss black grille with a chrome Honda badge and gloss black wheels along with an integrated lip spoiler in the rear and dual oval exhaust pipes.

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR

2022 Civic Type R Gives Preview of 11th-Gen Model

2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Leaked in Patent Images

We don't know much about the new Civic's powertrains, but Honda has confirmed that the 2022 lineup will include sedan, hatchback, Si, and Type R models, meaning there will be varying power levels from various four-cylinder engines. They'll ride on a newer version of the current Civic's platform, and a manual transmission should be standard (#SavetheManuals).

The 2022 Honda Civic will arrive in the U.S. in the spring, and pricing is expected to start in the low-$20,000 range.

Your Last Look At The 2022 Honda Civic Before It's Unveiled

The new Honda Civic will look more restrained than the current model.

Not long after Honda confirmed a prototype of the all-new Civic will be unveiled on Twitch in an online streaming event on November 17, a camouflaged prototype has been spotted by our spy photographers being tested on public roads.

Spied in a sedan body style, the new Civic prototype is fully camouflaged, but the design cues appear to match what we've already seen in leaked patent images. While the current Civic's styling is on the excessive side, the new model will look more restrained, but that doesn't mean it's going to be bland.

The current car's over the top C-shaped taillights have been scrapped in favor of sleeker-looking LED taillights and the prototype is also fitted with a subtle trunk spoiler. The redesigned grille is also narrower, the headlights are reshaped and incorporate LED daytime running lights, and the design looks much cleaner overall. In terms of proportions, the new Civic looks longer and wider than the current model.

Powertrain details remain a mystery, but the current Civic Sedan is offered with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder producing 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.

EX trims and above use a 1.5-liter turbo-four with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, but the manual option is removed from the options list. The Civic Si Sedan will also return for a new generation, which develops 205 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque from a 1.5-liter turbo-four in the current model.

Topping the range will, of course, be the all-new Civic Type R, but at this early stage, no development prototypes of this have been spotted. After it debuts next week, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Sedan will go on sale in the US in late spring 2021 for the 2022 model year. Let's hope it lives up to the hype.

"The Civic Si Sedan will also return for a new generation . . ."

Has this been confirmed? I haven't seen anything specific to the next Si.

Selfishly speaking, I would prefer it come as a hatchback.

Doubt that will happen, Honda is illogical like that. They believe buyers will cross shop a Si hatch with the Type R hatch.

Si sedan is confirmed, coupe is confirmed gone, and the Si hatch is possible but not confirmed, since Honda has said the hatch is going to be the "sport focus" with the coupe gone.

Maybe the Type-R would be a bit more tame this time around and a good balance between bland and crazy.

Visually it's believed to look like this based on spy shots. Definitely toned down, I like it.

It is basically a scaled down Accord. Huge improvement on the tail lights and rear end but I'm not a fan at all of the long horizontal hoodline and the inevitable chrome/black bar grill that looks more like it belongs on a truck or SUV. Hopefully they put a bit more attention to the interior as current gen has abysmal materials and one of the worst infotainment systems in the industry.

If they ever released an AWD Type R or Si, WRX and STI sales would be in trouble.

CTR MSRP is already nipping at the heels of the STI price as a FWD car. I would imagine adding all the AWD hardware and tech would price this car into a higher price bracket. Plus all the Honda fanboys seem to be totally fine with paying admin so you would probably be looking at a $55k car or more.

Acura has a Civic-based car coming soon, it'll likely be AWD, but wouldn't count on it being an AWD Type R, at least not initially.

I think that's a step in the right direction. The current Civic is pretty garish.

It'll be a new Type S not called ILX. Maybe Integra or RSX.

Default 2022 Honda Civic Spy Photos

2022 Honda Civic Hatchback spy shots: More mature compact hatch on the way

Honda’s current Civic has been a huge success, with the car even taking out the prestigious North American Car of the Year award upon its 2016 debut. Soon, a redesigned model will arrive, and it's shaping up to be a significantly better package.

Our latest spy shots show a prototype for the new Civic Hatchback. This is the body style that will be used for the new Civic Type R, prototypes for which are also out testing.

There will also be a new Civic sedan, which Honda previewed in prototype form last November, but sadly the Civic Coupe is dead.

The new Civic arrives at dealerships this spring as a 2022 model, initially in sedan form only. The car's design has adopted a more mature look thanks to cleaner surfaces and proportions more like what you find on premium rear-wheel-drive cars.

The low hood and cab pushed rearward belie a front-wheel-drive platform that's essentially a tougher, more rigid update of the current Civic's underpins. The new proportions aren't just for aesthetics, according to Honda. By moving the A-pillars further back relative to the driver, visibility is said to have been improved.

A teaser sketch of the interior shows the design here will also follow the more mature theme of the exterior, thanks to a clean, uncluttered look combined with the latest technology. We're talking a digital instrument cluster in combination with a large touchscreen for the infotainment.

Powertrains are likely to carry over from the current model, meaning buyers should be faced with the choice of 1.5- and 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4s. A hybrid option may make a return with this generation of the Civic.

Performance fans can look forward to the new Si and Type R. The current Si comes with 205 hp while the Type R benefits from 306 hp. More power may be dialed in for the new Type R to ensure it keeps up with the redesigned 2022 Volkswagen Golf R and a redesigned Subaru WRX STI coming up shortly.

One final key change with the new Civic is that production of all body styles will be handled in North America. At present, the Civic Hatchback, including the Type R, is sourced from a plant in the United Kingdom. However, the U.K. plant is scheduled to close this summer.

They took something fun and distinctive and turned it into a boring sedan for old people.

Completely agree.. and most older folks with money will not buy a cheap sedan like that either. Honda needs to keep Civics youthful, not grown up. They already have a boring Accord for older folks on a budget.

The current/outgoing Civic at least has some personality.
