After looking at -20an fittings, being they are a $100 bucks a piece, cutting them off the water pump and thermostat housing and welding some -16an fittings on, they are 1/4 of the cost. Didn't realize the price of those fittings were so crazy.

Do you think it will have a real crazy/cool "Subie" like rumble because of the unequal left to right bank header runs? I can't say I've ever heard a turbo'd V8 like your doing. I hope it sounds wild!

You said you got your intake manifold from a newer Camaro SS right? I don't know much about LSX engines but one of my co-workers is building a twin turbo LSX motor to put in one of his older Camaros. He also had a intake manifold from a newer Camaro but ended up trading it for a older plastic intake (not sure what it was from). He said the newer ones are built with more pieces and one of the gaskets is known for failing under pressure. Have you looked into this? It might not be something to worry about at your boost level because his goal for the project was to be "substantially faster than his 1000cc road course bike".
Awesome build BTW! Love all the fab work. |

I've just been drooling the entire build thread for this car.
Your craftsmanship is quite impressive and your swap is beyond unique. I'm glad you went with the 4.8 (or the 5.3 you thought you bought.) The 4.8 is about as stout as the 5.3 and guys are running over 1000whp on stock internals. The nice part about the 4.8 is you can easily rev it higher than the 5.3L. Most of my close friends are LSx fiends, from 1000hp GTOs with a built 6.0L LQ9 converted to Automatic, to a 5.3L FC RX7 that runs low 9's spinning the tires to the 1000' mark, or a 4.8L Fox Body with a "large" turbo. I'm definitely subscribing to this thread. I can't wait to see what you get done with the car. Best of luck! Oh! And nice welds too. |

I want to buy the gm crate engine 376 that is built for boost, ( ls3 ). I did get a new camaro intake manifold to have incase i get a ls3 (lsx 376)on down the road. The ls3 manifold wont work on a ls1 / ls6 / 4.8, 5.3 , and 6.0 iron blocks which have cathedral port heads. I have a brand new Ls6 intake manifold on my 4.8 But either way i'd never boost more than 15 psi, either manifold i would be fine in my case. Lsx 376 that i would like to have... I did buy some -16an fittings, but they seem to be too small... they would restrict coolant flow. -20an is near perfect size wise on the Ls coolant system. Just gonna bite the bullet and buy -20 fittings... Rather spend the money now and now have cooling issues later on. But aeroquip is probably the way I will go. |
