I have to wonder if the real world mileage will be much better than that of the V6. Seems like it's more of a weight/aerodynamic issue than one of displacement. Our RX350 (basically the same thing as the Highlander/Camry) gets about 25 mpg on the freeway...

2.7L and four?? sounds like a 3RZ-FE engine which is used in the Hilux?

Wow, that's gotta be the biggest 4 banger I've ever heard of. I bet it's torquey as hell - rated at "only" 180 lb/ft, but I bet that torque comes on way low.

Well, Toyota foolishly enlarged the current 2.4 engine to 2.5 liters for this year's RAV4, along with a impressive 4EAT automatic, so I don't think it's getting the 2.7 and six-speed anytime soon. I would love a Scion xB with the new 2.7 though. |

If people complained about the more powerful 3.0l in the lighter Tribeca... this engine in the gargantuan Highlander will make this vehicle about as peppy as a matchbox toy.

The Highlander makes no attempt at being sporty though. 0-60 in ~10sec is fine for most people.
