Yes. The transmission is identical, and they both use R160 diffs. Therefore, the driveshaft should be the same. The driveshaft in my 02 WRX swap came out of an RS.

Hey guys newbie here, what about someone that, instead of swapping my auto for a 5 speed, just skipped the 5 speed altogether and went straight for the 6 speed?

To Albanian Impreza:

Uhhh I just used 04 stubs in an 07 transmission with my stock 02 axles. Not sure how the legacy parts fit in there, but I have never looked into doing the swap into one of the older cars, and so I don't know what you need to go into your hubs. The important factors are:

1. The axles fit into the stubs on the transmission (04 STi matches 02-03 axles, after that, it's all different)
2. The axle fits into the wheel hub (STi axles ONLY fit STi wheel hubs, as they have more splines and are thicker.) Not sure how the legacy axles would meld into all this, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work, just that I have no idea.

To FasAdams:

Shouldn't cause any problems. I don't know what all it takes to make the 4eat to manual swap other than the obvious stuff (clutch pedal, master and slave cylinders, etc.) but those parts work for either the 6 speed or the 5 speed manual transmissions. I think the STi master and slave cylinder are a bit different (bigger I think) but the WRX ones still function just fine with the 6 speed clutch and transmission (that's what I have in my car right now.) Other than the extra parts and labor needed to make the car a manual, the swap should be identical to a 5speed to 6speed swap.

I believe the 05-07 sti axles are, but the 04 are not. I'm basing this on the idea that 04 STi stubs fit on 02-03 WRX axles while the others do not.

I have a couple of questions, I just did a 04 STI Sixspeed into my bugeye i love the treanny solid as hell...but last night i blew my rear diff off a 96 impreza...so i replaced it today with another one...im deciding on what dccd controller to get to prevent this of happening again..DCCD Pro offers 2 the manual only and the other could i just get the manual one and just set it to 50/50 and will it feel like my wrx 5 speed ? i really don't wanna spend 400 for the other one

Been researching a 6spd swap so I have an excuse to build a 2.5 or atleast upgrade my 2.0 further...

Doing the swap to a 05 WRX
*Looking to do it fairly cheap and not swap in a full STI drivetrain
What year(s) trans can be used? 05+ or 07+
6spd clutch fork
6spd mount
6spd shifted assembly
04 STI axles
STI flywheel and clutch assembly(depends how my WRX assembly looks)
DCCD controller??

Please explain this as to what years trans mates to my diff as there is not much info I've found on doing the 6spd swap to 04-05 WRX's...(I'm trying to find gear ratios and understand why "X" trans works with "X" diff or car

What changed from 02-03 to 04-05 in the WRX?(other than the factory 5spd gears being a little stronger and the obvious things body, interior, etc)

If you wanna do a 6speed swap your gonna have to do the brembo swap too. Sti axels won't fit in the wrx hubs and knuckles. Just for your information even though the 04 sti has the same bolt pattern, the teeth on the axels between the wrx and sti are different. And If you wanna do a 6 speed your gonna have to use a sti rear diff too. Sti's have different final drive ratios than the wrx r160 diffs. But what you can do is get a jdm/sti 5 speed RA gear set and still use the wrx diff. do your research and make sure the gear set has the same gear ratio as the r160( i know its possible) and its About the cheaper if not the same price
and just as strong and you won't have to spend money on brembos knuckles axels hubs and blah blah blah

Stop giving advice.

You can definitely run a 6MT without doing the STi axles, hubs, Brembos, or STi rear diff. You are right, you have to match ratios, but you can find WRX R160 in the 3.90 ratio needed for the 04 STi trans.

RA gears are stupid and will be destroyed just as fast a WRX gearset. What a waste of money.

looking for a nice quick answer please,
Our USDM trannys from 02, come in an AA or a BA, which we all know the BA is better.
Question is, do JDM V7 trannys have the same similarities? I know some end in AA, but are there ones out there coded with BA as well?

So much reading! I just read all seven pages, and still not 100% sure what I need. Can someone help me out?

I have a 2006 WRX, with STI springs and strut0 installed. I want to do the 6MT swap, while keeping the 5x100 pattern.

Parts I have. All came of 2005 STi

FRONT AXLES
STI clutch
COMPLETE 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION WITH SHIFT LINKAGE
CENTER DRIVESHAFT
STI STARTER
TRANSMISSION CROSS-MEMBER
HELICAL LSD

What else would I need? I swear I read through every post in this thread, but it seems very few of you guys did the swap in a 06-07 WRX so there isn't as much discussion about those years.

With the 05 STi trans your going to need hubs knuckles and suspension from an 05-07STi. This means you're converting to 5x114. Unless you use conversion axles of course.
