At the Track Wheel/Tire dilemma for DS 2011 WRX hatch HELP!

I have been autocrossing for about 5 years now in several cars. 2011 Evo MR, 2011 STi hatch, and a 2015 Audi S3. I've most recently traded in the S3 and I'm going to run my wife's 2011 WRX hatch this year in DS.

My dilemma comes to getting proper wheels and tires. My default would be to purchase Enkei RPF1 in 17x8 +45 weighing in at about 15.6 lbs with 245/40/17 RE71R's. I recently came across a set of SSR type C in 17x7.5 +50 weighing in at 13.3 lbs. I love the SSR's but I'm not sure if it is worth the sacrifice in width for the looks and lighter weight of them. Would a 245 be too squishy for a 7.5 wheel? Should I just go with the narrower tire on the lighter wheel? Or should I just get new Enkeis and call it a day?

If you are running DS you cannot change the width of the oem wheel (even if going smaller) so that should make the decision pretty easy.

Thanks Rusty! That solves the wheels.

Now, for tires is a 245/40/17 recommended over the stock 235/45/17?

Iíve always ran 255/40-17 on an 8Ē wheel. Yes itís a little squishy but still higher ultimate grip.

FYI, if you want to be technically legal for DS - stock offset is +55, so +48 is the lowest you can go with the current ruleset. The Enkeis would be 3mm off if they are +45. I had OZ Ultraleggeras on my '13 WRX which were 17x8 +48, and they were pretty light, IIRC.

I ran 245s, but many WRXs which have won RTA / DS at nationals over the last few years (both VA and GR/GV with 8" wide wheels) ran 255s, IIRC. If I did it again, I'd probably run 255s.
