Default Seats: Jdm to usdm frame, still high. What are you guys using?

Ok. I have 03 usdm seats and v7 or v8 wrx jdm seats.
I took the cushions of the jdm seats and put them on the usdm frame/rails.
I did all the cuts to make the adjustment lever cover and the back tilt mechanism fit

I bolted the driver seat in and still seems high. Is there any other combo that would lower the seat a bit?

first off this stuff is well documented here on nasioc , try searching

v7 and v8 left seats are very different

which ones do you have ?

the v7 left seat base has a steel pan under the foam but wire spring under the right seat , v8 has wire under both

if you put the foam/cover from a pan style seat on a wire spring seat base like the 03usdm seat has then it will be higher than the 03 was stock

ive searched and is the reason why i bought the jdm seats. all the threads have broken picture links now

i took the jdm right seat cushion and put it on the usdm left frame. ( so spring seat to spring frame

took the jdm left seat and put in on the usdm right frame. (pan seat to usdm pan frame.

from these pics, does the height look normal?

after the swap still seems about the same height as when i had the jdm base and seat installed. when i tilt the seat forward it still wedged up agaisnt the sun visor light when it was the jdm passenger seat.

i have some room with my helmet on but would have liked it a bit lower.

I had the same issue. I sat way too high with the jdm v8 seats compared to my bugeye seats. I even did the height adjustment swap but that just makes the seat go higher. I ended up selling them unfortunately. Now I’m thinking about trying something like Braums instead.

Thanks for confirming.

I might go with a sparco evo with buddy club side rails. But that is about $1k.

Default 2017 usdm still high

I have the 2017 wrx with the stock cloth usdm seats and I still think they are way too high. Are those the types of seats you are trying to switch too?

Why do you think it will be lower?? I used to have spec-c type RA seats and using usdm base with height adjustment the lowest setting was slightly higher than with the usdm park benches.

OEM will not be lower, you would need to use a different lower mounting solution, I just went with a Recaro so sorry, nothing to offer as to oem lowering.

Could he get some sort of aftermarket base with the OEM usdm seat though? Or are you just saying there isn't any way to slam the seat down lower?

you could get those flat mounts that go to the body and then drill holes to mount the seat frame to it. but if i remember correctly(driver seat) left rail has 2 bolts that hold the rail to the seat frame. but the right side doesnt. i think it is on the side.

I'd like to say that there are rivets holding that rail in based on some of the stuff I researched. I might pull my own seat later to check if I have time.
