transmission repair recommendations
Long story short, after replacing my tie rods I took my car to Firestone to have the alignment done. After the tech took my car out for a drive he came back and told me I had no 2nd gear. Firestone is covering the repair/replacement and it's now been thrown in my court to give them a trans shop to send my car to to determine what exactly is wrong. Any recommendations on one to send it to in the Indian Trail/Monroe area? I'm sure they aren't going to pay to haul it all over the place and I'm assuming that "trans shop" means somewhere like Aamco. They've put me in a rental car since Saturday and I have assured me that it will be repaired and covered but I want my car to be fixed and fixed right. Thanks for any input.

Just looked up Twin Transmission in Indian Trail and I might go with them. They offer a 3 year unlimited mile warranty on rebuilds. After talking to one of the mechanics this might be who I go with. Has anyone heard of them?

We are quite a haul from you, but we would gladly rebuild it for you. Since it seems as if they broke it, we don't really think they should have any say so to where you take it. Make sure you get someone who knows what they're doing and don't just settle because "they don't want to haul it somewhere". If they insist on you taking it to some random shop locally make sure they are willing to cover it if it breaks again. If we can help you at all, let us know.

+1 on this ^
DONT SETTLE! A lot of it would depend on what you want to do with the transmission. Rebuild to stock, rebuild with something slightly better, ppg's, or what ever. Talk with guys like Turbo Time and AndrewTech. If nothing else, call AndrewTech and they can help you figure out what will best suite your needs, shipping the trans to them may be out of the question if they are paying the bill but it would be worth the call. |

42 Autosports in Concord seems to be doing a ton of transmission work lately. I just got the two transfer gears for my five-speed from them. They know a ton about Subies as well.

I would highly recommend going to 42 Autosports if that is what is closest to you.
