Default Best way to get front Rotors off

Replacing my pads and rotors today using Kastle's insturctions from the brake sticky. Had no issues changing the rear rotors, but can't even get the fronts to budge, tried smaking them with a rubber hammer a bunch of times to no avail. Is there something I'm missing that needs to be loosened/removed (although I don't believe so). Any suggestions or ideas? or am I just not using enough brute force?

Do your rotors have threaded holes to turn 2 bolts to pry the rotor off the hub? That's the technique I use. I think I use something like a pair of M8x1.25 (40mm length) bolt. You'll see the holes near the center of the rotor hat.

yeah there's 2 threaded holes in the hat, use that to back the rotors off the hub. The bolts holding the top radiator brackets will fit into them...ask me how I know

PB Blaster, used conservatively and the two bolts.

Spray PB Blaster between rotor and studs and between rotor and hub, use sparingly. Use bolts, both, to effectively "walk" the rotor off the hub.

The fronts should come right off using the two bolts in the hat method.

The rears, however, may not be so easy. You'll need to release the parking brake, then use the parking brake adjusters in each knuckle to fully retract the brake. Even then, depending on the wear pattern, the parking brake may not let the rotor come off. At that point, you'll need to go buy M8 threaded rod and use it like super-long bolts to force the rear rotor off the parking brake shoes.

These things can be a pain with rust, like others have said if you have threaded holes on your rotors find bolts that fit them and run them in evenly; this will pull it off. If not make sure the parking brake is not set (if on the back) and you can use a rubber dead blow to get them off. If they are not getting reused then just any old hammer will do.

I personally used the "5lb sledge hammer, hammering away like a mad man...even using a weight lifting belt for support" method. The fronts came off after like 30 mins of work and the rears with 20 mins of work. They were destroyed afterwards though and these rotors had 50k miles of stuck on.

I wouldn't use any bolt that you can't afford to stretch / mess up the threads on. Find one that fits, then go to the hardware store and get some with the same thread, grade 10.9, and use those.

i just did this yesterday and it worked perfectly for me on both front brakes with just the "Magic 8 Bolt" (M8x1.25).. as soon as you get a good thread in.. start ratcheting it on slowly and you'll feel the rotor start to come off.. then viola!

if you're really in a pinch (and have a wrx).. the leftmost bolt that holds on the stock intercooler would work here.. but i'd suggest just buying a M8x1.25
