Are fender braces legal in the street modified class in SCCA?
Read the rule book twice now and it doesn't seem that it is outlawed.

I'm 99.9% it is not legal. The rules are written such that if it isn't mentioned as legal, it isn't allowed. I think 17.2B under Prepared class is where it would be legal.

OK, yes many people are under the impression that SM is a catch all, but that is not correct.

yep 11k, 9k springs on cusco coilovers... It may not really provide that much difference but its not expensive to do...

Fender braces are illegal in SM. If you had an STI you could put on the stiffer 07 STI ones via UD/BD though

Today I was asked about why I didn't upgrade my fender braces while putting on my new GC/Koni suspension and my lame excuse was that it wasn't SM legal for SCCA autox.

Hey, when are we going to get an SM sticky thread? Someone start one so I don't have to rely on the ESP/BSP/DSP/FSP/Project Mccanixxx build threads for what works and blah blah blah....

fwiw, 285/30/18 v710 on 18x10 +30 worked on my WRX Wagon today. This was with camber and caster maxed on GC camber/cater plates an slightly lower than stock ride height. They do stick out from the fender a wee bit though LOL!

And how about turbo choice.?.?.? I have a vf43 and I love the fast spool but what can give me that low end with more power on a built 2.5?

At a local meet its not going to be challenged, at a national meet, its definitely going to be challenged. It is illegal, I've confirmed it with several people now.

Nice!!! I think we deserve one and I think a serious effort with the Impreza platform can make some noise nationally. Locally/Regionally, I see a lot of Impreza's in SM and a good sticky here can really help us out if we want to stay in class and be competitive.

Let's put it this way, I have GC fender braces and have been ok. I guarantee you that I'm putting more stress through the chassis than most and it's been fine. Don't get mired down in the little piddly stuff like that. Since you have a GD just run it without worrying.

I've seen them. The stampings are ever so slightly better boxed and thicker steel. If I had a GD I probably would have put them on at some point when I had the car apart, but I definitely wouldn't be taking the car apart to do just that.

I'm in the south east of the US. You know Mike Aversa? We usually run against each other in some of the halfway between South Carolina and Canada events. He was trying to get me to run Canadian Nationals this year, but I don't think it's in the cards with everything else that's going on.

Yeah, my 5 year old son asked what was up with my broken wheels. With the skinny 205 all-seasons on the car right now it just looks weird.

I only took about a 20 mile ride since putting the coilovers on but the Koni DA's aren't that bad with the big spring rates. I haven't messed with the damping yet so it might be set to full soft, but still I was expecting these to be harsh from what Marc from GC was describing to me.

Your car looks very set up even for SM. Sick!!! I'm getting there, but I'm going to see how I do with my current setup before putting more $$ into it. What's your power band like with the rotated 3076 and E85? Last year I was on street tires with 1.4* camber and RCE springs so stage 2 STi power (93 octane) was plenty but with everything stiffer, more camber, and big r-comps, I may be able to use more power than I have now. My local courses are mostly asphalt though.

I can get full spool around 3800 rpm and keeps pulling to redline. It's about as big of a turbo as I would run for autox. If e85 was available when I did all this turbo stuff, I probably woulda just stuck with my stock turbo or maybe an 18g or something. e85 is fun stuff

Sounds nuts!!! Unfortunately, NJ doesn't have any e85 stations. I am however, in the process of selling my home and moving to the Philly area where I think there are a couple e85 stations close by. When I revisit power mods I had my eye on a Blouch TD05H-18G 8cm with bigger injectors, TMIC, catless downpipe, intake, boost control, and possibly EWG. It would give me a fatter powerband with higher peak numbers but it's expensive. I'm probably going to ditch the AP v1 and do something else for EM also. I would LOVE to have GT3076r type power though so now what do I do LOL?!?
