Mines spoiler questions
Just wondering if anyone had any opinions/information they would like to share on the mines spoiler. I will be picking up my Silver STi in a couple weeks and really want to get rid of the big wing (please no flames, it has been beat to death). But I thought the looks of the Mines spoiler might add a lot to just having a plain trunk lid. There was a group buy that recently happened for a replica of this that got me to thinking about it.
My questions are, does the Mines spoiler actually help with drag and keeping the car planted more than no spoiler. And does anyone have any pics of it installed (preferably on a silver STi or WRX). If not, could someone photochop some pics for me? I did find one pic of a CF version on a yellow Impreza, but the lighting was dark in it and I really want it all painted silver. Dude if you are talking about this...
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=416151 ....I love the idea. That is exactly what I was wanting as soon as I something similar on other factory cars. I like my STi spoilerless, but it is just a hair too plain-Jane. This wouldbe perfect if the fit and finish is perfect. I would like to see it from different angles, a little wider view, and color keyed. |

Yep, that is the one I am talking about. Looks like you got on the GB just in time metoo. They have some pics in there now as well. Please PM with some of your pics and opinions when you get it. I am still just wondering if there is any aerodynamic benfits to it, or if it is just better looking.

It is functional but its meant to be used alongside with the stock normal WRX wing.

One other question (this really is a dumb one). What are the pros and cons of getting this wing in CF vs Fiberglass if I am going to paint it either way? offset |

I doubt you'll find any definitive answers about how functional it is.
However, I would guess that it adds something, based on the similar spoilers you see coming on high performance cars like the M5 and M3. I doubt they would have cluttered up the trunks of those cars if they weren't doing something. I could be wrong though. I think it's probably safe to say that it's not going to add anywhere near the stability/anti-lift that the stock STi spoiler was giving you. If you're not doing a lot of performance driving (i.e. going around corners) above 80mph or so, it probably doesn't matter a whole lot either way. I'd say go for the painted fiberglass version, but keep your sti spoiler handy for when resale time comes. Do yourself a favor too, box it up really nice with lots of packing material so you don't wreck it. |
