Exaust, battery, seats, no windshield washer fluid, UP/BD to the limited trunk to remove the wing, start making custom brackets where allowed, titanium, the list goes on.

I've done battery, front seats, exhaust. Can I use just the limited spoiler or is it the whole trunk unit?

What's everyone's car weight?

Limited spoiler is fine since both trunks are the same (weight, shape, etc)

I believe my car was around 3050 depending on scales with 3/4 tank of fuel.

You could do wheels, brakes, drain the i/c sprayer, empty everything out of the trunk (the interior pieces), a/c delete/ stereo delete, steering wheel, seat belts for harnesses.. i am sure there are more.

Cutting weight gets expensive, but you can be selective.

I found a 15lbs Buddy club catback. If you have lots of $$$ you can get really light weight seats and brackets, but you are looking at $2k per seat. Sub 10lbs each though. I have some corbeau's with brackets and I'm 25ish lbs. but, I paid $350 for them.

Coilovers save weight VS stock struts, so that's a given. Swapping out the UP pipe and DP will save weight too. Spearco TMIC is light weight. I have the APS unit and I don't think I can curl it with one arm.

I removed the speakers, but they weigh ounces, not LBS...was dissapointed.

I just bought Girodisc 2pc front and rear, so a few lbs there too.

I don't know what you did with the Charcoal canister, I don't remember seeing where I could remove that.

One thing I was toying with was replacing hardware(bolts/nuts) with Titanium.

It could get VERY expensive, but imagine how much weight could be saved by changing out even 30-40 fastners. Of course there are certain bolts/nuts that I would keep as OEM, but you get the idea.

I've not had the opportunity to get my car on scales, but I can run with the Fuel light on and not get fuel cut and I generally run it that way.

Good luck

Eric

Trunk interior panels? I thought the plastic/cardboard panels that were held on with pop tabs had to stay in. I had to go to a junk yard to find them for my trunk.

Make a turn down after the DP. That's another 13lbs you could save

Kirkey's or Ultrashields. They are stupid light for the price and you can drill holes in them for even more lightness. Local FSP guy has one down around the 10lbs mark and probably less than $200 into it. The passenger seat weighs something stupid like 2 lbs WITH the cover. It's a kids drag seat with holes drilled in it bolted directly to the floor. So figure something like 20# for both seats after mounting hardware/drivers sliders (if you don't need adjustability in the drivers seat it'd be even less).

6" springs instead of 8" saves a few lbs on the suspension along with aluminum bodied shocks. You can look into scalloped rotors, or drill extra holes in them as well for a few more lbs. I've looked into the hardware route, but that's pretty pricey per lbs of weight saved. Running on an empty tank does save a bit of weight, and after looking at the GD tanks, there's no reason to worry about fuel starve.

Hollow Hotichkis sway bars ... Cobb uses them

small racing steering wheel

Of course lightest possible wheels (remember wheels are expendables in the long run, they need to be replaced after a few years of hard use). Hoosier are lighter then Kumhos ... don't know about Goodyears?

But don't save on OIL !!! :-) ... for AX always run with extra oil if you don't have a baffled sump or dry sump.

Steering wheel is worthwhile if only for the tactile feed back and you can adjust how close you want to be with different depth wheels. The weight savings is minimal though after you remove the air bag. It was only like 2 lbs different when I weighed mine.

18x10 Enkie RPF1's are in the 18lbs range and the A6 in 275-295 is around 23-24 lbs. So you can have a wheel and tire package in the 41-42 range for weight.

To put that in perspective, one TIRE for my truck weighs 45 lbs. And that's not even the heavy duty tire. Those go up to almost 60 lbs

I have a Magnaflow Ti catback forsale, the whole catback weighs around 10 lbs. I had it on my 02 WRX but it should fit the older model STIs.

You definitely quickly hit a wall on return on investment with weight reduction.

Thanks for all the ideas. I did some more weight cutting last night.

The charcoal can may be removed because of emissions.

I'm hoping to get down to 3000# for next year.

I built a turn down last year, but I used aluminized steel. Also I had a resonator for the straight area to help with the dB.

It was almost 10lbs!! so, the catback being 15 is good. It is held together with springs at the rear axle, so the axle back can be removed in a snap for the extra 5-7 lbs!

I'm going to look into the charcoal canister thing. Any drawbacks?

Thanks!

Some say the removal of the canister makes the car smell more like gas and can be slower to fill up at the pump since it's used to collect the vapors from the gas tank. Mine has been gone for a while and I put a small breather vent from autozone in it's place. No real increase in gas smell and it still fills up just fine.

The only fasteners you can replace with lighter weight alternatives are on parts that are unrestricted, like shocks, exhaust, etc. Otherwise SP has to adhere to the stock class fastener rules.

Thanks Marshall,

That was an oversight on my part. I should know better. Guess I'll have to get more creative to save weight..

I weighed my car at the Dixie NT 3115 that was before everything I have done to it. But that doesn't seem right because the only thing I had done was rsb and hoosiers on stock BBS's.

The SCCA scales are a bit suspect. My experience as a former chief of impound is that half of the impound workers don't know how to use them properly, plus they aren't always level.

I'd weigh at a race track if you have one available. Hmmmm, that makes me think of one more reason to take my WRX to Summit Point this weekend rather than one of my Camaros...

I am getting rid of a lot of my mods for an SP car. I have quite a bit of stuff for sale:

18x10.5" wheels
14 Hoosier Tires
Cusco Rear Diff
DW 850cc Injectors (sidefeed)
Zeitronix E85 content analyzer

Let me know if you would like any of this for your build.

Who in ASP has replaced their pitch stop? What pitch stop are you running?

I'm going through the rulebook again and it's not clear to me if it's considered to be an engine mount or not, since it connects the firewall to the transmission.

I beleive there was a clarification in FasTrack in the last 6 months. Look thru those. Otherwise wait till the 2013 Solo Rules get published and it should be in there.
