I'm reading through the FAQ right now, but i bumped this thread up because I felt like I could get a more motorsport perspective on it. I didn't even think of changing the flywheel until your comment ... hmm I will be right there so I guess why not.
mccanixx has a thread on his ESP build ... it's suprising to see him using the stock setup |

The stock STI clutch is good .. get the Excedy (? spelling) one ... same as the more expensive STI labeled version.

As I said in my thread, a stiffer clutch set up is only going to increase load on the gear sets. IMO. I've had no issues with slippage or 60's so why spend the money. I'll change it in the spring, it's 4 years old, and I bet what goes in is stock. I guess if you have the cash get a street style package, just over stock. But, it's in no way necassary for a dd esp car. Greg Last edited by mccanixx; 09-30-2009 at 07:41 AM. |

Yeah I noticed exedy had a stock unit around 250 i believe ... that may be the way to go. I honestly don't have the spare cash, although I could save and get the street style package. I may just spend the saved money on a flywheel. I'm used to my clutch already, but I am curious to know what I have in the car already. It's definitely above stock and a bit stiffer ... I've had several WRX owners sit in my car and try the clutch out.
oh yeah this is my car now |

How much benefit do you feel from a lightweight flywheel? My engine is out of the car now (it blew up....again) and the flywheel is all blue and has a fair number of surface cracks. Guess that's the cost of letting the wifey autocross the car when she's still learning to drive stick and launching the hell out of it.

I tend to think a LWF would negatively effect my launches.

Since I don't do a lot (err...any as of late) pro solo's that don't have a hard launch into a straight, do you think the LW FW's benefits over the rest of the course outweigh a potentially worse launch?

You blew your engine AGAIN?! Jeez, that's more than me
I have a 12 lb flywheel and I think it makes a ton of difference. I love it. Launch issues were quickly corrected by adding launch control to the ecu. Last edited by sureshot007; 09-30-2009 at 04:09 PM. |

theres no need to baby a stock clutch. its got enough clamp load for ESP power levels.

yeah. The last one was one I built myself. Lasted 2k miles, a subaru challenge, and an autocross. I think some silicone got in a passage after a while. For the next one I bought an OEM shortblock from Subaru. I'm looking at a 15lbs flywheel. |

Okie Dokie. I need everyone's help.
I'm selling my Autocross toy because I am sick of it. My E-Stock Prepped Porsche 944 is going away and I am going to move my daily driver into autocross duties. It's job as a DD will be taken over by a 2010 Impreza Hatch. What else would be needed (Tires/Sways/Saftey/etc) to make my DD into an ESP contender? So far: 2002 WRX Sedan The path the air takes: Injen Cold Air Perrin Inlet Stock TD04 STi & Samco "Y-Pipe" TurboXS Top Mount w/Spray STi Manifold Stock Internals Stock Exhaust Manifold GrimmSpeed Up-Pipe TiAL 38mm External WG COBB Heatsheild with Blanket HKS Downpipe w/Wrap APEXi from the DP-out. Suspension: KYB GR2 Struts Tanabe GF-210 Springs Undercar H-Brace Perrin Lockdown Kit Brakes: Hawk HPS Pads Brembo Blank Rotors Drivetrain: SPEC #2 Clutch SPEC Streetlight Flywheel Kartboy Short Throw w/Bushings So, I'm headed towards ESP. How's my list look?: Brakes: Braided Lines Race Fluid Suspension: Coilovers Rear Sway Bar Tires: Hoosier A6's Interior/Saftey: Recaro Pole Positon (2) Recaro 5-Point Harness (2) AutoPower Bolt-in Race Cage Fire Suppression Battery Disconnect What else does this thing need? Oh, yeah. I'm aiming for a Camaro SS. |

Are you only autox'ing it? If so, why bother with fire supression and roll cage?
Oh yeah, and if you want to do it right, just do everything mccance did. |

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to do the external wastegate.
Here's a thread ESP Project I haven't updated it lately. Mainly cause I've been lazy, and it got a bit cluttered at the end. I'll get back into it as I switch to E85 and make a concerted effort at tuning the chassis. Looks like you're off to a good start. Cheers McCance Last edited by mccanixx; 10-15-2009 at 12:18 PM. |

H brace and EWG have to go to be ESP legal. Water spray isn't legal either.
Didn't mention if any of your manifolds were PnP'd. Also recommend TGV deletes. |

The Mani's are neither polished nor ported. I may do TGVs to get the spool time lower.... As for suspension, junk the KYBs, right? |
