Default Feeling devilish and a need for one of the "last" of the Evos...

In the schizophrenic, spastic way I've been purchasing cars in recent years, I find myself once again with a case of New Car Fever and back to square one, hankering for an Evo IX. I know, I know... the X will be smoother, faster, "better"-- and more expensive. I just see the IX as a "pure" machine and the last of a line (though I have no false preconceptions of collectibility). Not to mention I should wait to see how the '08 WRX will look and perform.

I know I'm not alone, outta the closet and back me up...

Hmmm, that's not far from me... I wonder if they'll deal. As for buying a used Evo, that'd be like buying a used diaper... or condom...

Buy an Evo 6!
It's the last "pure" homologated Evos unlike those diluted Evo7,8,9s...

Eh? Where? (pink???)

Oh, and I see Mitsu is selling MIVEC crate engines fairly cheap as well. Good insurance...

Buy an old car instead and try to fix it up. Takes longer and doesnt cost as much.

I want to get a II. Worst part they're expensive as **** because of import laws banning the importation of cars older than MY96.

I have a completely stock and unmodded evo 9. I love it, driving it makes me ejaculate.

Hmmm... haven't ejaulated behind the wheel since that episode with a 360 Challenge Stradale... Not that the WRX has been dull. Just contemplating getting a IX has made me all tingly...

Chet-- thanks for fanning the flames!

I love the Evo IX. A pure drivers car.

~300whp with simple reflash/intake/exhaust

I think I drove the original 8. Did they make the ride less punishing in the 9 like they did with the MR?

The Evo IX is the hottness...

Evo X = no 4g63 , looks good, but I'd skip it considering they got rid of the engine that makes an evo an evo

do you feel the same about the US STi being a 2.5 instead of the 2.0 it used to be?

15 years is a pretty good run for an engine. They can't use it forever, imo.

It would be one thing if they flipped a bitch and changed it from a turbo four to a six cylinder like they did with the Eclipse, but basically it's another turbo four, who cares if it isn't the exact same engine?

Good point

Counter point: Subaru's 2.5 was proven through the sti. They knew it would be good, not to mention that a .5L bump in displacement is rarely considered a bad thing.

Agreed, but that doesn't negate the fact that for now, I'd rather buy proven perfermance. Until the new engine proves its worth (aka: ability to make sick power relatively easily), then I'll keep my bias with the 4g63.

The one big advantage of the new evo is in handling though, we finally get those japanese yaw control doo-hickeys

Exactly; I plan on keeping it stock so I expect a certain logevity.

Well, I'll post pics if it all comes together. It'll be a Kowalski-like blast from CA back to NY next week, minus the final act of course. Anybody in, say, Colorado willing to loan me their garage for an oil change?

You're not alone. They got a few MRs leftover in MA. Advertised around $32k with no trade or anything like that. I want one, alot.
