The R does 41mph in 1st gear with the stock rev limit. It hasn't even reached its power peak by the time the RS hits red line. I love how diametrically opposed some of the cars in this class can be.

Oh, yeah. Event 2 went well. Still no heads up competition with Mike though. That slacker still hasn't finished putting his car back together. I finally got my header and test pipe onto the car. The bump in power is both noticeable and quite fun. Now I'm starting to generate a little wheel spin coming off tight corners. That will probably get cured with fresh tires as the fronts are starting to show a little cord now. (used tires, I've put another 14 runs on them)

And as far as under steer is concerned? Yeah, none here. OEM torsen diff. Car is neutral on throttle, loose off the throttle and depending on what I'm doing with the steering wheel and brake pedal it could be loose or tight under braking. Of course, I've only run 2 events and both were 50* out. Warmer weather might make the car pick up a push. Fortunately for me, I still have a bunch of rear camber I can dial out.

I just noticed a size I have never seen in a A6, 275/45ZR16
Problem is that it's a 25.6" diameter. What? why is a 45 series 16" tire a 25.6".
Wish it was a 35 series.

275/40R17 is shorter than that in A6.

Even the 265-45-16 was a pretty tall tire. I'm thinking the 275-45-16 would be worse yet. Karen's Camarobird wouldn't have any trouble turning those....the RS would probably not like it too much.

I think it weighs around 2750. I have had it down too 2700 with out the A/C but the summers are hot here.

Not sure how the DSP and R-comp guys like it, but in Street Touring trim, the car rotates nicely. It is not twitchy by any means, and additional rotation is only a tire pressure bump in the rear away. It makes for a very nuetral car in my case.

Patrick, I noticed the wear pattern on your tires. Is it possible you're running too much front camber. Or is that wear from wheel spin? Or did you just flip the tires?
I'm sure you spent a lot of time figuring this all out but I'm just curious on the wear pattern.

Yeah but most ST guys run the heavier springs in the rear. I run the opposite, 750f 600r. Car is very stable as long as I can get some heat in the rear tires. Had a big problem with that at the Newport Prosolo with air temps in the mid 40's.

Camber is at -2.5 which is just right, they are wearing even. There is just a bit rubber buildup over the inside groove. Hoosier was trying to tell me I was not running enough. I ran -3.0 early early last year and about killed in the insides. I have about 7 degress of caster up front.

Well if you only knew why I was running that. I have a OBX front diff and catback. OBX has a contingency program which they will reinburse you if you win a national event.

It's tough to tell from pictures. The car looks very fast and it's obvious you're doing the right things. Now if only someone can dethrone those damned BMW's.


I only said that about OBX because they screwed me on a set of coilovers. So I refuse to use ANY of their parts. But that's for another thread.

doesn't look like alot of body roll to me. The surface/corner looks off camber, so it kinda looks like the car is leaning more than it actually is.

Plus when you got that much crip and yes it was off camber.

I would love a ride in that car, too bad you're 2000 miles away! I guess I'll just have to build my own.

This includes beating a field that included multi-time National Champ Vic Sias in a DSP BMW E36

What is your camber in the rear? Is it still 1.5? Have you tried more, if so how did the car work with more?

Well done Mike and Chris. You guys kicked my butt. Once the course dried out the strengths of the BMW shined through. And while hazing the tires all the way to the finish (in 2nd gear!) was fun, I think it may be time for fresh rubber.
